I recenlty bought a P4 3.2 and 1gb of ram and 256 gforce 5500 and I have 3 hdd, however, I am hopeing to reduce the hdd to one in the future. my question is that my power supply is only 300 watts output and it makes loud noises sometimes. I just like to know if this is ok or I need to get a 400 watts. I do look at some site to figure out how to make my pc silent but I guess with a P4 there isnt much I can do. If anyone can give me an idea I would be greatful. Thanks
When i got my 3ghz p4 because it was a Prescott it required a lot of power and i found my pc restarting on its own because there just was not enough power with the 300w i used at the time but then i got a 400watt and i've never had a power prob since, I would recommend that you get a bigger PSU just due to the fact you have lots of hardware.
try this program & add 30% to total wattage http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/Power_Supply_Calculator.php?cmd=INTEL
Do realize wattage means absolutely crap all if the amps are all on the wrong rails I wrote a guide on how to pick out a PSU (and reccomendations if you dont care to read that section) at http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=10764
