NEED HELP ASAP, possible INCD problem?

I am feeling rather stupid at the moment and am rushed for time. Have data disks that need to be opened and printed out for a trial at 9am tomorrow.

I have a DVDRW IDE 16X, using windows XP professional and Nero 6.

When I place a disk in the burner, the tray opens and will not read the disk. I have used several disks, DVD movies and the tray just opens after a few seconds. If the tray is empty, I can not get the tray to stay closed.

Checked in device manager and everything is showing there are no problems. I was able to access a disk this morning, but have had problems ever since.

Rebooted computer, ran registry mechanic, defraged and every other possible thing I can think of.

In DVD drive properties, what should be checked in Auto play and INCD options? When I click on INCD options, a red X comes up. Also checked for updates for firmware and driver devices and everything checks out up to date.

Wish I had time to research in the threads, but my hands are very full at the momment.

THX in advance for any suggestions.

    >>>>... ran registry mechanic,

Not a good idea, what might have been an easy fix can be complicated by such software.

    >>>>... Have data disks that need to be opened and printed

Are these standard DATA discs or were they made with InCD? If other packet writing software like Roxio was used they aren't compatible. If you have no need for InCD I would uninstall it.

    >>>>... I have used several disks, DVD movies and the tray just opens after a few seconds

So the problem appears to be system wide, not just the DATA discs?

You might try going into Device Manager, finding your drive then uninstalling it. When you re-boot Windows should reinstall it and hopefully things will return to normal.

The data disks were made thru Nero Express, using the data disk option. They have opened before with no problems.

I did as you suggested, rebooted, computer showed new device installed, so I know that much is okay. But the tray is staying open, tried the disks again, with no luck. Looked inside with a flash light and nothing seems to be out of place.

Am at a loss, Thank you for your suggestion, might try it again, just to see if something 'clicks'
