Ok so ive tried soooo many methods listed here and elsewhere, i think ive gone through like 15+ dvd-r's ok basically the dvds that come out wont work on any dvd player ive tried except my cheapo portable dvd for some reason and i can take an avi and make it a dvd with avi2dvd successfully for all dvd players so what gives? im at my wits end can anyone please help me i have a liteon dvd burner it supports all formats including dvd9 all firmware up to date. i really need help or im gonna lose it over here. i know for a fact the dvd players ive tested the burned dvds on fully support burned dvds becuase ive checked the websites. they arent very old maybe 1 year old. so why is it i can take an avi and do it but not with a dvd iso or video ts folder?

Your question is a little confusing.
You say you can convert avi with Avi2dvd, burn those files and they work??
Or you say you can play avi files, but after conversion and burning they do not work??

What brand of disc are you using?
What software do you use for burning?
Can you describe little more what is going on when they do not play?
What do you mean by "downloaded backups"?

for some reason this person cant burn isos or video_ts folders from my understanding
    im having the same problems.
I can burn avis directly onto the disc(menuless)and get them to play

but for some reason i cant burn video_ts or isos.. after im done it always says my disc is blank.

I've had past success with nero vision, but its been acting up on me as of late, so i've switched
to using ConvertXtoDVD to encode a dvd menu with 7 avi's to dvd-9,
dvdshrink to shrink it to a 4.7gig dvd
then i tried dvdshrink/nero to burn disc but the disc is reading empty after the writing process, so i used imgburn, and still after the writing process, the disc read empty

I'm assuming the TC has had the same problems as me
At least it sounds fairly similar..
if not.. then nm.. i apologize.

    hi guys,

    i need some help...

i have a few movies stored on the computer HDD as avi files.

can anyone tell me the procedure to convert these and write on to DVDs which play on a Philips Home Theater which has DivX compatibility?

i would really appreciate the help since i believe i have tried all possible options with no luck!!

incidentally, the DVDs that i could manage to burn do play on an earlier model of the Philips DVD player !!

well, in the past, I burned 6 avi full length movies onto one 4.7gig dvd with the Divx program itself.

You dont get menus tho.. just a disc with a list of 6 movies.. Divx burns like a datadisc.

Ppl on the Afterdawns nero forum told me newer dvd players come with Divx support, and can play these avi's in this style, tho i've never actually tried it personally. Might wanna try it, if you havent already, and your ok with not having dvd menus on it.
If you want menus on your dvd...like a real dvd.. im having problems doing that myself... its a whole diff beast..

i figured it out the discs were originally in pal i just reconverted them. and voila they work. sorry for the hassle guys, and for the avi guys use avi2dvd easy as pie. or if u can afford it get convertx2dvd it gives you more options for converting plus you can make custom dvd menus and such works great for me. if not you can try the 20 step method lol. those two are the easiest way ive found. i didnt like the nero vision approach. anyways both programs get the whole job done on my comp in like 15 to 20 min from avi to burned dvd. hope this helps. and chanak you have 2 options 1 burn them straight to disc and your dvd should recognize them and play them, but just the movie no menu or options. or use one of the above mentioned programs to create a full size dvd5 with all the goodies...the possibilities are endless depending on what you want. peace out

    hey navinsara,

thanks for your inputs...the program that i am using is "ConvertXtoDVD 3"....maybe i am not looking to make all its parameters work! I am actually surprised that a chance DVD burned plays back on an earlier model of the DVD player and not the later one! This is what is hassling me a lot! Nevertheless, will keep on trying...thanks once again..

chanuk im sorry but your posts are somewhat confusing....

above you mention how your previous problem was converting avi's to play on a Philips player with divx support..

    then later on you said,
    "hey thanks!

will try it out...though my original problem still persists.."

what exactly was your original problem? you never mentioned an original problem.. unless you made that on your own thread like Suba suggested.

but if your Philips dvd player has divx support.. Like navinsara said
you dont need to convert.. Divx player has the ability to burn 6 avis to fit onto 1 dvd. Im not sure on the quality, cuz i havent been using top of the line discs. So if you dont need a menu, thats an easy way to go.. no encoding or burning.. the process takes less then 30 minutes. No menus or buttons or anything, but a player with divx support will read the 6 files. Now if you want menus.. you have to use a diff program like navinsara and yourself mentioned.. and have to settle for less movies on 1 disc. I have a few players in my house.. and only 1 portable dvd player will read a plain jane disc with avis burned directly on it. And its an older portable cheapo player.

So i am forced to make the dvd video/video_ts/VOB style with menus and less content. Altho the menus are just cool to see arent they?

What was your original problem chanak? besides burning avis to play on the divx player.

Disregard this if you already made your own thread..
navinsara may need to come back to this thread and ask more questions tho.. so might wanna start your own
