I am currently building my first pc and am debating which kind of processor I should get. I'm thinking about how I will use my computer in the long run. Right now I only do some video editing and not really play any pc games right now.

I don't know if I should go dual core like this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16819115037

    or quad core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115043

Here's a list of what I have currently ordered if it's any help:

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

    Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

I'll eventually order a HDD, Windows XP and a video card.

*Any help with what type of video card to get would also be helpful. Currently looking at this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814150229

    Thanks

More than likely, but it would probably be a couple months after I've built the pc.

I'd suggest getting the Q6600 over the Q9300 as quads go (more bang for the buck), and depending on if you'd be doing more encoding than gaming in regards to the E8400. I'd also suggest aftermarket cooling (Zalman 9700, Freezer 7 pro, or the Ultra 120), and a "beefier" power supply (Corsair and OCZ are the current faves here)...

EDIT: Specs for my two desktop bilds are in my sig. I don't do any gaming, so, I have "middle of the road" GPUs. I also picked my components based on the input of more experienced members right here on AD.

    Indeed, that's a necessity.

Ok, thanks. I'll be getting the Q6600 and bigger power supply.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

The 8800GS is certainly better, and of late it might even be cheaper.
