For the last 2 days my drive NEC ND-2500A was acting kinda wierd. While burning an image the the buffer levels were going up an down like crazy. I know it normal for the drive to do this 2 time while it kicks up from 4.1 to 6.2 to finally 8.3 write speeds, but this was different.I did the whole spyware search thing (nothing came up) then I remembered I was doing quite of multitasking while unraring the img (watching a movie, downloading, surfing the net) bc it took an unusally amount of time to rar so I figured maybe that was the problem. I was right after rar the file again with nothing running in the background I got good buffer lvls and speeds again. Anyhow today I burned another image but the drive never wrote past 4x. I check the logs and media and made sure the settings were set to Max which they were. So I figure a firmware update wouldnt hurt too try. I figured out I had the latest from NEC. So I go surfing on net and find that there "hacked" firmware update that will allow me to even write onto dual layered disc. I flashed my drive anything is great. Burns and reads fine (even read this dirty ass coffee staind dvd). But since I did this out of the blue I have no DL DVD's too try. I try google and found out a tool that tell alot about your drive DISCINFO but its rather old and doesnt take into fact that DL drives were released. Anyone know of program that will tell me if the DL capablities of my drive have been unlocked.
