I've been trying to make dvd backups of my movies, and have been having very little success. I've tried using DVD43 in combination with 1 Click DVD Copy Pro, I've tried using AnyDVD with CloneDVD2, I've also tried using RipIt4Me with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, all with little success. On some movies, the ripping part would fail with bad sectors. On other movies, they process would complete with no issues, but when I go to play the DVD, it would work for the first few minutes, and then the audio/video would start to stutter more and more, and eventually it would just freeze and couldn't move along at all. I'm doing all of this on my laptop, but I also tried one of the movies on my desktop with no different results. Any tips would be very appreciated.

    Hi

    1) dump dvd43, do a clean uninstall
    2) use good media as Taiyo Yudens

if your set on using 1 Click DVD Copy Pro use anydvd instead of dvd43 or rip with dvdfab decrypter first then use 1 Click DVD Copy Pro.

laptops can have problems backing up DVDs make sure you have the latest firmware update for your drive/burner,

use better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning at 6x to 8x max, this is very important.

make sure the DVDs aren't dirty/scratched, this can cause transcoding problems.

and as posted use this thread for you're options backing up DVDs

Looks like the pros are taking good care of you ehaas.

Is this a particular title you're having difficulty with, or movies in general?

And i'm in total agreement on dumping DVD43...very poor program. You'd do well to rid yourself of it.

Well, I picked this guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/494836 and followed it exactly. It all went smoothly until ImgBurn went to verify the burn and failed. I got this in the log window:
    Code:

When I went to play the burnt DVD, I had the exact same result as before, it plays fine for the first few minutes, then stalls and can't keep playing.

The movie I'm working with right now is I am Legend, but I've had the same issue on many other movies of mine. I'm burning with Verbatim DVD-R's and I made it burn at 4x.

One other thing I just learned is that it seems the issue is with the burning, not the ripping. I opened the ISO file that I created with VLC Player and it played just fine. Any idea why the burning wouldn't be working correctly?

what brand of blank media are you using? and what was your burn speed?

also make sure you have the most up to date firmware for your drive/burner

I'm using Verbatim media and burning at 4x. I was thinking about the firmware. I can't seem to get the rpc1 website to load. My dvd drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA Device according to the hardware manager. Using cached pages on google, i did manage to download a file called gma4082nhn03.exe. On the download page, it said the firmware was only for NEC OEM drives, so I'm not sure if this is the right firmware for me, and I really don't want to make my drive useless.

no, but I don't have a NEC drive, that's what makes me nervous. I got a firmware upgrade file, but it says it's for NEC OEM drives. I have a Lenovo laptop and the hard drive is from LG.

Yeah, that site is currently down. Keep checking it periodically as it's supposed to be going back up soon.

Yes, i think a firmware update is one of the next logical steps in the process.

I tried burning with an Imation DVD+R last night and it burned with no issues. Is Imation supposed to be better than verbatim? If i can just change media, I'd rather do that than risk ruining my drive.

Have you tried the Lenovo site for a firmware update? Here's the link to begin the search.

fyi, I did a basic search and found an '02' update.

It could also be that your drive just doesn't like the Verbatim MCC 03RG20s. Stranger things have happened.

i did find a firmware update on lenovo's site. it was a bootable iso image. So i burnt the disk, and booted it, but it said my drive didn't need updating. The current firmware is CX08
