My Computer programs are running a little slow or frezeeing. I have Windows XP and I only use it for surfing the net and for college papers. My wife downloads her camera jpeg pics. Is there any idea of what can i do to improve to my computer. I have Nortons virus protection but i hear its crud, and after a while it costs.

I have tried most of microsoft's operating systems and xp sp2 is [bold]by far the worst update[/bold] to any of their products to date. It adds a bunch of crap that barely works, sloooooows down your computer, and pops up and annoys you frequently. Their popup blocker dont block, their firewall sucks ass and has no options, it doesnt provide program controll, and sp2 frequently bugs you to add more rubbash you dont need.

    good antivirus:
nortan antivirus ([bold]not[/bold] system works or anything but the antivirus itself as systemworks sucks)

    good adware removal:
    adaware (free)

    good firewall: (free)
zone alarm (again, [bold]not[/bold] security suite, just firewall)

keeping your computer fast is all about less, not more, which is what xpsp2 adds, more crap suckin up cpu cycles.

Totally agree with you. Switch off automatic updates immediately.

Less is definitely more. All I have running is Norton Internet Security and Norton utilities. It does everything I need.

I think their security is the best that I've used - pop up blocker, ad blocker, spam blocker - Sure, you have to pay for it but in my opinion, it's worth every penny.
