Hello all, and thanks for reading my post!

I just downloaded the Windows genuine validation tool and was then advised that my copy of XP Pro is not valid. So now, I can't download any critical updates for my computer.

I called Dell (I have a Dementia 4600) and explained the situation. I think that a well-meaning buddy of mine installed bogus copies of XP Pro and Office XP on my computer. I already had a Dell-installed version of XP Pro but perhaps he needed to put the fake XP Pro copy on for the Office XP to install correctly? (I don't know).

Well, the Dell rep. tells me that I will have to do a complete reinstall. Which, I don't really want to do. I also don't want to take the time to go and backup all of my files, either. I downloaded this proggie called Magical Jellybean Finder which will find the fake XP Pro registration code. But, how can I pull the genuine XP Pro code off of the Dell cd? (The Dell rep said that there wasn't a way to do this).

Also, I do have the original, genuine XP Home edition Product Key code on the side panel of my Dementia 4600. But, the Dell rep. said that code won't work for XP Pro. Is that true? Because if it isn't true, then that means that I could just swap the fake code out with my original code.

Guys, thanks again for helping me out with this situation! Really appreciate your comments.
