hi okay so i formated my computer, and now i have no sound. its happened before but i dont want to pay money to have it fixed again..

i remember i had to use realtek audio driver, and i try, and during some of them my computer restarts during installation. and as for the rest, they finish but never work.

i really dont know what to do.. here are my pc specs, pls help ><

operating system: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
System Model: HP Pavilion 04 540N
Display Driver: RADEON 9200 PRO Family
Multimedia driver: C-Media AC97 Audio Device

i went to device manager and the c-media ac97 has a exclamation mark and wont work. i treid right clicking and updating driver and restarting but it never works =(

You might want to reinstall the motherboard audio drivers, make sure it's the correct one for xp (try different versions older and newer). Make sure any antispyware software is disable during installation.
Also go into the run box and type dxdiag, next try it with full acceleration and without acceleration.
Ensure that the BIOS has the onboard audio enabled.

If that doesn't work, sometimes the only way to fix this problem is to install a generic $20.00 pci soundcard. That's how I fixed my problem, I just plug in the audio card, disabled BIOS onboard audio ,then when I booted up windows automatically recognize and installed the drivers. Works good ever since. Takes 5 minutes to install the audio card, just make sure to unplug the computer.

try uninstalling it from device manager & restart windows so it can find new hardware & load the driver.
