I'm new at this and need some help using either DeCrypter or Shrink. I can get the .vob files to the HD but for some reason, when I burn them, my stand alone player does not recognize the DVD as such. Do I need to also add the Audio files as well? Do I have to include both the 2 and 6 channel audio? Would those folders have to be named Video_TS and Audio_TS?

    tanx in advance

Standalones need a particular structure on the dvd which is the ifo, bup, and vob files in a "VIDEO_TS" folder (caps are important). The AUDIO_TS is not necessary ( I never include it).

You probably want one audio stream at least--most include the ac 6 channel. The dts requires special circuitry on the standalone. The audio streams are included in the vobs and are not separate audio files.

Thanks for that information. Its really appreciated. I don't see Roxio Easy CD Creator 6 mentioned anyplace in the forums. Is this NOT the burning software to use for this?

people have not had good luck with roxio. I think some have been able to do it, but they are in a minority.

The most widely used ones are nero and recordnow. Burnatonce has worked for many and is free. A guide is found at the dvdshink.info site.

I personally use Nero 6 Ultra at the moment (and have always used Nero since years ago).
As it's stated though , there are quite a few that think RecordNow does it all. I would also suggest either of these two.

Just downloaded and used Burnatonce for the first time. 3 for 3 using DVD+RW, TDK840G burner and DVDShrink. I'm amazed how much better this software is than DVD XCopy express. No problems with several recent DVD's and not a coaster in sight. Can save money by using my DVD+RW's over and over as masters. Thanks again everybody for your advice..

Quick question, with DVDDeCrypter, can you edit out all the extra stuff and shrink the file size below the 4.4GB threshold or do you still have to use DVDShrink? It seems to be a bit redundant to have both loaded. Where's the advantage of Decrypter over Shrink?

    Thanks in advance..

Decrypter cannot compress, It can decrypt some movies that Shrink cannot. I would just use Shrink, if you have a decrypting problem, then use both Decrypter and Shrink together.

There is no comparison between DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink (as one compresses & the other doesn't)
I personally don't use DVD Shrink but here is a reason for keeping DVD Decrypter - if you have a DVD under 4.36Gb from the offset you can just open it , then MODE > ISO Read > ISO Write.

    Cman,

I've got the answer to your problem, if you have been using RW when backing up DVD's, as a rule standalone players don't carry on serious relationships with RW media.

Try a backup with -R or +R media, standalones are su ckers with a pretty face ;-))

BTW - I'm a DVDShrink and Nero fan myself, not much they won't do -

I did exactly that. Went to burning directly to either +R or -R disc without any coasters or freeze up during playback on my standalone. Tanx for that information.

Are there any known issues with re-authoring a XCopy express disc using either DeCrypter or Shrink?

    cman,

I can't see the reason for using Decrypter after you've already opened it up using DVD XCopy. Decrypter is used to open up the copy write.

Try using DVDShrink, after the program opens click "Open Files". Then trace back to where you left your VIDEO_TS folder with all your files. Give Shrink a second to digest the information then you're off and gone - - >
