My pc in my office is the one I do most everything on and it is pretty outdated. I believe it is around 3 or 4 years old and was a budget pc when I purchased it. It is very slow and want to know what options I have to get it going much faster. When I go to system info this is what I see... Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ 1.60 Ghz Memory (RAM) 1.00 GB I believe the motherboard is a ASUS M2NPV-VM Is this board outdated beyond upgrading other things or should I replace this as well? The case I have is pretty small (16'' long, 7.5'' wide, and 14'' tall). It is an asus as well and I'm not sure how to find a model number for it. Can someone please point me in the right direction as of what to do. If it helps any I want this baby FAST when I'm done with it. Thanks for any help!
was it always slow or just gradually got slower? is the hd ide or sata? check the asus site for your board to see what am2 socket cpu will work on your board. maybe something like these cpu's in this link. http://www.pcvonline.com/ProductsList.aspx?CategoryID=24683&23997&f1=115&f2=Socket+AM2
It's as slow as it's always been. hd is sata. This board to me seems pretty dated as the cpu speed and ram I think I want won't work with this board (I think) I've been looking at new egg and wondered if this stuff would fit in my small case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423 motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115225 CPU Is this extreme overkill?
might fit your case but not certain. will need a videocard if you are using onboard video on old board as new board doesn't have onboard video. might also need new psu. old board can supposedly go to 8gigs for ram.
How do I know for certain if the new motherboard might fit? If my old board can handle 8 gb of ram and I got that only, how much faster in your opinion would my system be? Can I get the ram I mentioned in my earlier post and then if it's not fast enough for me just go ahead and get the new board and cpu? I also have a faily decent video card lying around somewhere that I can use.
what bit version of windows are you using as in 32bit or 64bit as 64bit windows can read past 3.5gigs of ram? measure the size of your board to see if the new board will fit your case as i think it will. cannot use ddr3 ram on a board that only only has ddr2 slot as they are pin incompatible. is that videocard pci or pci/e 16 as pci/e 16 is what you want? what is the highest speed cpu your old motherboard can take?
wish i had that much money to spend on just those 3 components i could build a whole pc off of the money you spent on three parts
