Well it all depends on your budget. First thing is that if you want the best prices hands down go to pricewatch.com or Newegg.com, although pricewatch is cheaper.

    1) If you want more RAM then Corsair, Kingston, OCZ and Patriot are the best brands to get. You also need to know what speed of RAM is in your PC already cause you want to try to get the same type and speed. If you get a higher speed than what is in there then the new faster RAM will only be as fast as what was already in there. So make sure you get the same type and brand to ensure best performance. I would say you would want at least another 512 mb of RAM so that you will have 1gb which is what modern systems come with standard now days. I would just sell the RAM that is in there on ebay or something and just buy brand new DDR400 also known as PC3200 184 pin DDR RAM. I just bought this RAM by Patriot and its lightning quick.

    2) If you want another hard drive then you will most likely have to buy a IDE or SATA PCI card because the onboard IDE channcels are most likely already in use depending on what devices are in your VAIO. I would go with Western Digital or Maxtor and those are the only brands I will use as far as hard drives go. and I would get another 160 gb and Raid them on your new PCI card that you will most likely have to get. Again you want the same make model and specs on this new hard drive as the one you already have if your going to RAID them.

    3) As far as graphics cards go both ATI and Nvida are good. If you go with a ATI card I would get the X800 or X850. If you choose Nvidia I would get the 6600 GT or the 6800 GT preferably the 6800 depending on your budget. Also you need to find out if you have PCIE or AGP for your graphics card before you can buy one.

heres a western digital caviar 300 gb hard drive for 118.00

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220

    a good card 6600gt at 144.00

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130203

alot better card 6800gt at 294.00

as far as the memory is concerned are you trying to match up your 1 stick? or do you want to get 2 gigs of new ram? 4x 512 or 2 x 1 gig?

and do you really think that you need 2 gigs? if it were me I would just stick another 512 in there which would be adequete. but if you really need it. I would reccomend

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227031

2x 512 mb of ocz performance series pc3200 ddr 400 with latencey of 2-3-3-6 for 110.00 bucks now if you get 2 sets of these it will be 220.00 for 2 gig's but it is kick ass ram. or you can run 1 set with your current 512 and have a gig and a half. either way the memory and the card will give you a huge performance boost!

i would also go with a 6600gt card...those are great cards..... no complaints at all.... will push all games today without problem, and if you want more hard drive space go with WD.....they have 3 year warranties, and great service when you have problems with your drive... memory, theres also Corsair Value Select, great memory for cheaper prices.....you can get a gig for about 85-100 bucks....

As far my budget its between 500$ or may be little more ican afford. As i am not used to computer hardware soif it would be possible for me to fix those things by myself or its hard.

i think my hard drive problem is solved as it is cheap and too much space. the other thing to decide is graphics card either ati or geoforce card is better. currently i have ati 9200 so it would make anydifference to my pc if i get geoforce one thanks
