need help using my usb with my sonyericsson w300i

    every time i plug the cable in with my phone attatched i get a little bubble in the bottom right had corner saying "windows does not recognise this device it may have malfunctioned in the past"and i then cannot file transfer or anything and it will not work i really would like to know what is wrong with it any one who can i help i would much apprecieate it . thanks
