Hi guys, I recently bought a new stick of RAM for my computer. My computer is old, so this RAM is supposed to be DDR 400 MHz. My computer has 3 slots. I originally had two 512mbs installed in the first two. I now have it set up as 512mb, 1024mb, 512mb instead after it would not boot with the new 1024mb in slot #1. I don't know exactly what I'm looking at but the numbers feel off. The DRAM Frequency is running at 160.8 mhz, although I believe it was running at 200 mhz before I installed the new one. Could this drain on my performance? can't yet tell as I went from 1G to 2G and while I notice similar/maybe slightly better performance than before it seems like it could be more (basically the numbers are bugging me). But I'm sort of worried that my money has been wasted. http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8584/helpramda4.jpg I took these shots from CPUZ. Slot #2 is what I'm concerned about. If anybody could look at this picture and tell me what's wrong (if anything) I'd be eternally grateful. If not, well then..thanks anyway and sorry for wasting your time.
Hi, first is that ddr-400 doesn't run at 400 MHz it runs at 200. Second the dram frequency is determined buy multiplying the fsb buy a set amount or buy dividing the CPU clock buy a set amount, so considering that if your CPU is running at around 2.4 GHz then there is no problem . When it comes to performance a 40 MHz drop isn't that big and can corrected if you know how to overclock your computer.Hope this helps.
