First off I'd just like to say that this is a pretty unique problem I have... been searching all over and haven't been able to find the answer. I recently found a site that allows you to upload a .mp3 or any other file to a mobile device for use as a ringtone and whatnot. I was a bit intrigued when this worked out, so me being my curious self, wanted to find out how it was done and see if I could replicate the results doing it myself. Needless to say I forwarded the original message to my email so I could download the file. The file appeared in my email as an attachment in the .aac filetype. I downloaded it, and to my dismay, it did not play in any media player I put it up against. Super, VLC, Rulesplayer, MPlayer, Media Player Classic, Quicktime, Zoom, and iTunes all failed... some even crashed or froze. So I went to the sites forum and they said that they don't convert the files uploaded... so now I don't know how a .mp3 I uploaded to this service turned into a mutant .aac file that works on my cell phone and many others... but not on a powerful computer. Any insight?
yup.. simple.. .aac can be a protected format, like m4p. I believe dbpoweramp can handle it if you have the correct codec and key (if needed) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Audio_Coding
