I have a Compaq Presario S6200cl with a 2800 Athlon XP, 768MB pc2700, on an ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard. My questions is it seems to run a bit slow, when compared to other compareable systems, so I am lookin for help as to reasons why?! Programs take to long to load and shut down. Its been this way since I bought it and I finally have gotten to a point were I wanna do something about it. The harddrive is a a 120gb 5400, could this be the problem? Is there a noticable diffrence between 5400 and 7200 speed drives? Or is it that the motherboard is to weak? Ohhh.. I also have a Connect3D Radeon 9600(128mb) videocard in it. Sorry for rambling but any help would be greatly appriciated!!
download crap cleaner from here: http://www.ccleaner.com/ and then run that to clean all the crap from your computer and then scan and fix any issues that you have the program.
I tend to keep the system pretty clean, I am always running checks for spyware and viruses. I will try the CCleaner but, I has always been this way, from the moment I pulled it out of the box to now... Any other ideas??
Mort81... It has 768mb of 2700. It came with 512mb but I thought I would boost the memory and added 256mb. It didn't make much of a difference. I also added a fan to the case to help keep it cool. Help?
Yep.. I use an up to date version of EZ Antivirus(Computer Associates). Can you guys tell me if there is a noticeable difference in harddrive speed between the 5400rpm and 7200rpm types?
possible but check in device manager & properties of that drive to see if dma is enabled?? what is the make & model# of the hd so can get info about it??
here is info & specs http://www.samsung.com/Products/Har...es/HardDiskDrive_SpinPointVSeries_SV1203N.htm check the cable if 80 wire or not. also check the dma on the drive
To check it goto Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>Check the properties of Pimary/Secondary IDE Channel>Advance Settings, you will see it in there, make sure there set to DMA and NOT PIO. Was this the hdd you got with the pc or did you use it in a diffrent pc b4?
It came with the PC, and everything is set to DMA. What od you guys know about the Motherboard, is it a quality board? Is there a better one out there in MicroATX that will accept a Athlon XP 2800?
can check other asus boards or other manufacturers but a problem might be the power supply connector to the motherboard might not fit a regular motherboard as some dell & hp/compaq use 24 pin instead of 20pin connectors
Well the motherboard came with the system so I wonder if that could be it?? Could Compaq be that dumb? How can I check for that?
Hey guys, on another note, thanks for all the help so far. Since I comming across Afterdawn( by dumb luck ) it has proven to be a great resouce and of course that is all thanks to its members... So enough sap.. and back to reasons why my PC runs like a Ford Festiva!!
