I recently updated my firmware from HL-DT-ST Dvd-RW GWA 4040N to now HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N. Is there anyway to get it back? Don't want to use system recovery if that works. I install it from http://tdb.rpc1.org/ the one with 1.02 (Fujitsu-Siemens). Both of them were version 1.02, but i install the wrong one. Laptop's made by Gateway, but i didn't see any for gateway firm update.
Hi, thank you for helping me. I think the original one was HL DT ST GWA 4040N. I don't what company it was, but the laptop i currently have right now is made by Gateway. Please, is it possible to turn it back?
Hi, Well there's this f/w here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1930 or http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GWA4040N The thing is what f/w did you have before? Did it start with a letter, or just numbers? This will tell if your 'gateway' was using Dell or Fujitsu-Siemens. BTW System recovery won't help you. (System restore is s/w related) Your 'problem' f/w is hardware related.
thank you, srry if this was supposed to be in the hardware. it used to start with letters, when i used a program to check my hardware, it had HL-DT-ST GWA-4040N That's all i know of, but i don't know which one it is on the firmware page. Oh and it used to be DVD-RW and now that I have installed the new one, its DVD+RW. But on the dvd tray it has DVD+RW. This is confusing, i hate myself for updating the wrong one. oh and when i did a scan on nero it says i can burn both dvd- and dvd+, what the heck is going on? It can read them good, but the problem is burning. Maybe I'll try burning again later. http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/8914/dvderror7uv.jpg When I try to burn with Nero, it would tell me to insert a dvd+r since the dvd-r i inserted didn't work. When it starts to burn, it gets this error. finally, this is what i get after i start to burn a dvd+r http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/7540/dvderror9ym.jpg it also won't read dvds now, man i'm pissed!
Hi, Your in the right section. The hardware in this case is your DVDRW. Also looking at your images they tell you that the drive should read both - & +, but will only write to +.
Hi, The problem is two f/ws that it could be. The id that your giving me is for the drive & not the f/w. If you can remember it would either be 1.02 or B107. The name Gateway is a marketing name in this case so the f/w is either Dell or Futisu. You could try the Gateway site for info. However if your drive flashed to 1.02 (without any problems during flashing) which it now shows then try the first link I gave you. Try the Fujitsu 1.04.
hey, i just installed the version 1.03 of fuji. but it still gave me the same error. nero would stop burning around 20% and had a burn error. this looks like the original firmware i had with the - and gwa. is it possible to get it back? what are some of firmwares i should try? srry for all this and thanks for helping me.
Hi, I'm sorry as I have no personal experience of this drive, I've done about as much as I can. Maybe someone can step in who had experience of this drive. You could try one of the other 1.02 f/w (Arima/emachines-Medion-LENOVO/zNOTE) In my previous post I was suggesting you try 1.04 from here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1930
yeah, thanks for the help. i contacted gateway and they say it's a personal damage tips they gave me to fix the drive didn't work. i'll have to replace the drive they said, but i don't know how to replace a laptop's dvd drive. they told me to uninstall the drivers for the dvd drive and some other ide then restart the system. it gave me the original drive back, but still has the burn error. so i guess i won't be able to burn again on this laptop.
hmm this is strange, i burn a maxell dvd-r today with nero and it was actually successful. i don't know why, but i think uninstalling the driver helped. i will try burning some more to see if it actually works. thanks
