Good day to all of you. Although I am not new to computing, this morning, following the very well written instructions on connecting and making an iso of a game from the box to the puter, I am now wondering a few things. First off, why are there so many drives listed on the xbox when I connect thfu FTP ? There's like 7 of them. I found that the game I wanted to make a "back-up" of was drive D, but what about those others ? Second, I got the box mod'd some time ago, but never upgraded the drive. This is not a soft mod'd system, I sent it out to a person I knew but now can not seem to find him for some ansers to upgrading the drive. Since I have so many computer hard drives here, from 60 to 160 gig in size, I am thinking about changing out the drive that came with it. I have never taken the box apart, so have no idea how to do that either without a hammer and a saw...LOL... If anyone can help me out with some basic answers in simple english that i can relate to, I sure would be greatful......even better if someone can create a back up drive for me if I sent it to them.....oh, i do have a computer sitting next to the box just for ftp'g and not tied into my main systems in the house. I am not the gamer in the family...but my wife sure is....LOL (seems like she lives on it and spends a fortune for games....LOL)... Any suggestions ? Thank you kindly in advance for any help you might be able to offer.... Mouser
Ok dude the reason there are so many drives is cos they are partitons of your HDD, If you wanna install a larger HDD in xbox its quite simple to do, first your gonna need to get a program called xboxhdm you can get this from here >> http:/dwl.xbox-scene.com, read the read me files in the folder and create a clone of your existing drive. or format the large HDD you have plug it in to your xbox get the slayers auto installer disk and run it from the boot up. any probs let me know.
Thanks for the info....but the linky...it's coming back as ''XBOX-SCENE DOT COM DOWNLOADS // no dir listing // '' but thats a good thing to know that at least it can be done. I'll looky for the program... Not sure if I totally understand, but, willing to try to figure it out and see where it goes from there. Thanks for the reply. Cheer's Mouser
I just tried that link to and realised it was crap, if you type xboxhdm into google its there for you! good luck and PM me if you need some help.
As for the PS2 Controller -> Xbox thing, I've not found actual instructions, perse; but I know they do make adapters. Ultimately though, anyone who complains that an S-Type XBox controller is the reason they lost.... Really needs to quite whining and own their losses. If it were a gamecube or N64 controller, things would be different, those things are downright funky. What I *can* tell you is that there are adapters on ebay available between $10-$20 that will do it for you, if you don't want to mess with re-wiring. But if you're already a modder, you probably don't care about a little extra wiring work anyways, lol.
I am not talking about PS2 .. Nor am I whinning... WOW...I am helping several members here on the side doing things in the vid section and you wanta tell me I am whinning... I think I will just let this go and accept your " I'm sorry, I posted to the wrong thread" in advance ! Now back to what I was asking. I want to change out the HDD in the X-BOX ( not PS2 ) and have no idea'r how to do this. Bottome line, you wanta know how where what about flicks, read that section or contact me, this area, I am as green as the grass you mow in the summer ( warm weather depending where you live ). Green in this area so am asking, have asked, and if anyone can help me out, I would be really greatful. AFTER ALL is this not a place that people can come to ask for advise and get ? Please keep it simple and to the point. Thank you in ADVANCE for any help you might be able to give. (see above) Kindest Regards Mouser
While I did somehow reply in the wrong post; I'm not apologizing to you. Because if you can take the sentence- -which has nothing to do with your post, and derive that I am calling YOU a whiner, I hope you learn to lighten up. And PM'ing me with your bitter comments about it doesn't make you any better than me; now does it? I honestly hope you get your answer, because I've been around a while, and I've posted a lot of informative things, and I have a very good understanding and willingness to help; but I also hope you learn to lighten up, especially when you can clearly tell that someone's comment obviously had nothing to do with you. As for your ACTUAL problem(This is not simple, but it IS to the point): First, use any old FTP prog to copy the files from your C, E and or F drives, onto your PC. This way you have all your major needed files to keep your saves, programs, etc. You can get your xbox' ip address from it's dasboard, some display it on the main screen, some you need to find in the settings information. Next, you google a program called "XBoxHDM" you can use it to make an image for a very basic live disc that will convert a hard disk drive to Xbox format. It has a folder for your source files from the original xbox, simply placing the original fiels from your xbox, into the prog's folders, and then running the application (I believe it's called 'makelinuxiso.bat') will create a disc image for you. Burn the disc, then turn off your computer. Set the drive you wish to use as a replacement for your original XBox to primary master settings, and connect it to your computer. Set your cd/dvd rom drive of choice to primary slave, then for safety(Some people have reportedly lost other drives through user error) unplug any other drives. Boot up your pc, from the drive. (If the option isn't there already, just change it in your bios.) First choose option 1 for VGA w/xbox utils. For your login, use xboxhd Choose to build an XBox HD from scratch. During the process, it will prompt, asking if you would like to copy the C, E and/or F drives to the new drive, provided you have put them in their folders, which places them onto your burned disc, select yes. Depending on your pc, and the number of files you are backing up, I have heard of this taking as little as a few minutes, and as much as a few hours. You do not need to worry about locking the drive, since you have a chip, rather than a softmod solution. That makes it a lot easier for you. Once the files are copied over, you can exit, shut the computer down, and then connect your new drive in place of the old one, all should boot normally. If you get error codes from the drive, it means that you may very well, in fact, have a soft mod. I don't say this to insult you; but because I've heard of some shops charging for chips, when they installed nothing. Most drives will work fine, I have heard as much as 300gb drives going in fine. I personally use a 200, and have installed a few 250's, but they don't always detect correctly. If you're just doing light gaming (You said your wife, so I don't know how much use it sees) 120 will probably be fine. If you do a lot of FTPing and want to use it as a functional media center, I would suggest a 200gb; it works out rather nicely that way. There have been cases of incompatible drives though; so I thought I would include a link to a list of compatible/non-compatible hard drives by size, speed, and manufacturers to benefit you. Hopefully this answers your questions, if you've got more, don't hesitate to ask.
ty but i took and got the box taking with the network and was able to transfer all the files off the drive in the box to a drive on a seperate computer. took that drive out of the computer, put it in the box and it worked and worked well. had i known in advance it was that simple i would have never asked my questions that led to a post in the wrong section. Glad that you got your problem solved. I'm surprised your modchip made it so much simpler. They keep getting more and more evolved, and adding more and more features like that.
This was a piece of cake compared to some of the other things I have been doing lately. Man I hate it when you get away from all the basics and start trying new things. Seems that the "big boys" think on the same lines....new tech stuf, new ways to do...but they forget about just one thing.... " The Old School Days " THANKS AGAIN H A P P Y H O L I D AY S
