Definitely up date the firmware 1st - you're quite a few versions behind. The latest is B7W9. That may solve it. If not what kind of problems are you having?
the burner is not burning to the set speed and no where even near it i set it to burn at 8x and it burns at 2x-4x and well i have a 16x burner and well if i set it higher then 8x i get nothing but erorrs in the disk and its not the media cuz i tried every type of media and still have the same problem
Ok that def. sounds like a firmware issue. Update the firmware. One thing firmware does is help the drive recognize and have the proper write strategy for media. If it doesn't have it - it will use a generic write pattern at a lower burn speed. Give that a go and let us know.
Not a problem - glad that did the trick! If you get burn failures at 16x - slow it down to 12x or 8x. Even though a disc may be rated for 16x doesn't mean that's the 'optimal' speed.
yeah its working i have been scanning the media to tell me what setting to burn it at but now the drive seems to love stay closed and wont open and all
Is it only staying closed with one type of media or is it doing it for all even originals? It may be the drive itself on it's way out. You can try uninstalling it in device manager rebooting and letting windows do it's thing and reinstall - may not help but can't hurt. Right click on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager. Right on the drive listed under dvd/cd rom drives then click uninstall. Reboot. Drive doing anything else funky - like noisy or longer spin time?
ok i formatted my computer and reinstalled windows threw the recovery console and well that didnt fix it i was told its probably just dead and no more good but thats the thing the drive may not open but it still burns better then it ever did and nuthing is stuck in the drive it seems like this problem happend after i flashed the burner do you think i could downgrade the firmware and re flash it and maybe that might help like could i be the firmware i used that is causing this?and if i downgrade it will that hurt it?
I don't think the firmware update stops the drive from opening. It may just be a physical piece of the drive that gone - it's a bit older and eventually all things don't perform like they used to. You can try flashing back to a previous version but depending on what media codes this firmware update had you might not be successful burning. Give it a shot. The previous version was B7V9. You can get previous versions here
