I'm trying to extract a "chapter" from a DVD5 and use that vob to
make a vcd/svcd. the length is about 45-50 mins the vob is only
english audio 2.0 and video. I'd planed on using NERO 6.6 to
create the vcd/svcd but need to get the mpeg formated file for it
to build into the vcd/svcd structure.

If I understand it correctly, there is a(re) tool(s) to convert from
vob to mpeg2 (or to avi then to mpeg2). tht mpeg2 is then usable to make an svcd? The actual data are from a tv capture so its mpg1 quality recorded as mpg2.

can anyone suggest what i need to do and in what order. so far I
I mounted the dvd's ISO as a nero virtual dvd and had dvd decrypter extract the chapter that I needed. that gave me a ts_video containing the vob and ifo file. it also created a log file containing:

    0xC0 - Audio - MPEG-1 / 2ch / 48kHz / 16bit / LBA: 1626430 / PTS: 00:00:00.228 / Delay: 0ms
    0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 352x240 (NTSC) / 4:3 / LBA: 1626419 / PTS: 00:00:00.228 / Delay: 0ms

    which describe the vob's contents.

    thanks

Nods... I got that, and attempted to extract the peice I need.
The root menu says there are 5 eps on the DVD. The one I need is
the 1st one, I tried chapter 1, but it is only about 250mb
in length. I expected around 50+/- mb for the 1 hr tv show, w/o commercials. Could I need to extract chapter 1+2 or something? I guess what I'm asking is how do I relate the menuing systems logical chapters to disc chapters for informing the ripper what to extract?

    thanks :)

The chapters should be the actual chapters on the dvd, rather than 'logical' chapters. Maybe you have a trial version that only allows you to rip half of the requested size?

If you can't do it with Imtoo, you may try use another program (e.g. Shrink) to do it:

Run Shrink, click 'reauthor', go to the dvd rom for Shrink to read the dvd. Double click the 'title' containing the clip that you want to rip to paste it over onto the compilation window. Right click on the selected 'title' on the compilation window and choose 'set start/end frames'. Adjust the sliders, click 'o.k.'. Then click 'backup', set 'target' to harddisk folder, and begin ripping the desired portion to harddisk.

This is a bit more time consuming, but will do the trick.

    Good luck!

Played around with ImTOO some more, it appears that the disc chapters 1+2 make up the 1st ep on the disc (logical chapter 1). I extracted the 1st 2 cha[pters to an mpg then looked at it with Media Player 10 the whoke thing is there (starting credits to ending credits) so I guess when i need to do this I'll need to test extract and see if I got the whole thing next time :).

    Thanks again for your help.

No problem. I recommended ImToo because it's powerful yet simple. Glad that it works for you!
