Is there some sort of (free) password dump reader application I can use to decipher this?

I know by using loginrecovery.net that part of the password is: *a***7

Is there some sort of (free) password dump reader application I can use to decipher this?

you are obviously a hacker who has got a laptop sent to them and the buyer smartly put a password lock on it.GOOD ON HIM!

Peter, what kind of dumb assumption is that?
If this guy was a cracker *and not hacker* he wouldn't need our help to get the password NOW WOULD HE?

@ fitzm : to answer yor question exactly, go look for Hiren's BootCD on google, download it, burn it to a cd, run it at startup, and use it's password recovery/removal tools to gain access to windows again.
If the recovery tools don'work, you can just remove the password alltogether with the same tools.
