I sincerely apologise if this sort of problem has been posted several times, but I have searched extensively and not found an answer. I am pretty certain I have a hardware problem, any ideas out there for diagnosing. I am copying a movie backup from one DVD-R to another DVD-R using Nero 5.5. My reader is a pioneer DVD-120 and my writer a Pioner A05. I am running Windows XP Pro on an AMD XP1800+ machine with 256 DDR ram. Every time the disk copy completes with no problems. Yet whenever I try to play the DVD I have just created I have issues. Either it will not play at all, or will play and hang after a short while. I have tried every type of media imaginable. I am convinced I have a hardware, firmware, Op system problem (IDE issue maybe ??) Any ideas for diagnosing please. Many thanks
Hi majcam, Your problem may be a media issue, not hardware. It could be - or + compatability issue. You didn't say if the playback problem was on the computer or on a stand alone player. Stand alone players are somewhat picky as to what type they will play. If you burned a +R blank and your player is a -R, it may do exactly what you are saying. If you are not sure, Go to www.dvdrhelp.com. They have sections on burners, players, and media compatability. I have also read on here that there is an ASPI issue with XP. You may have to download and install the latest version. I am running ME so I don't know exactly why its missing. Jerry Jerry
Thanks Jerry. You are correct in that my problem is with a standalone player and not playback on the PC. I am using a -R disk. The player plays other -R copies (ones I did not burn). However I think you are onto something with the XP - ASPI compatibility. I'll try some patches. Many thanks. Merry Xmas
Try to change your Pioneer, because it is crap. I also have the same problem, till i bought a LG GSA-4040. 100% compatible in ALL standalone player, with ALL media types.
majcam, I'll try to be of a bit more help than bravo's snide, off-handed and uneducated comments - Try burning at the slowest speed possible, “copy-on-the-fly” generally will cause unnecessary errors AND Most importantly, keep our fingers and toes away from Mr. Computer sensitive keys while he’s busy working for you. My last suggestion is burn with Nero. So much better than, say Roxio - Happy Holidays, "P"
