Hello lords and ladies... got a brand new Lite-On LH20-A1L (SATA) from NewEgg and have spent most of this evening making Verbatim coasters, which really stings because its Verbatim!

Anyway, I keep getting these "Drive not ready" errors. I have SATA hard drive as well, only SATA bios options I could find are IDE or RAID settings, so that's no help. The DVD video in question is re-authored from DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 from DVDFab Decrypter 4.1.0.2 and all this from a clean install of XP that was done today.

Here's my log file from Nero:

    Burn process failed at 12x (16,620 KB/s)

and burn at 6x for testing

    bios...

i think on mine i have to turn on SATA, i know i have drivers for my 6x hd's sata in dual raid, not sure on single devices?

is the devive seen in device manager and bios?

have a good look into that bios if above 2 steps dont work, you may have to turn off raid for single use.

I set the size to 4300 like you suggested, but I still see the same sizes in the log. Did I do it wrong? I checked the Fit to Target box and set the custom size to 4300:
    Code:
    12:45:34 AM	#8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 307
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2281887 (507:05.12, 4456MB)
    and 6x didn't make a difference either.

As for bios stuff, I saw an option for "OnChip SATA" and it's Enabled and both my SATA devices appear to look the same in the bios and device manager... none of the raid settings are enabled.

Another option I was curious about, under the File I/O options I tried both Windows Filesystem and SPTI/ASPI and neither worked. What about the Output DVD checkboxes for Removing Layer Break or P-UOPs? Right now they are checked.

UPDATE -- potential problem: You know that "Safely Remove Hardware" icon that hides out in the sys tray: since I re-installed windows and added this drive my SATA devices are in there! What's up with that? Back when my just had my SATA drive and my old burner was IDE, the hard disk was never in there.

I tried using the drag-and-drop "Write Files to CD" in Windows with a blank CD-R and that errored as well.

One of my friends at work suggested swapping the SATA cables on the motherboard... but it sounds like this is a bad burner to me.

hmm, yeah im at a loss here, can only be bios setting or drive...

do you have a separate bios type interface for raid setup,,,

i have 3 like bios on my motherboard as i have dual raid, so 2 place to get into raid and 1 for bios all on boot

i wonder if its a setting in the raid bios not motherboard bios?

    whats your motherboad?

    I have a Biostar P4M80-M4

I tried setting the bios from "IDE" to "RAID" just to see if that made a difference, now I get a "No raid devices" on startup, but that iddn't make a difference. I even tried swapping the SATA cables around between my drive and my burner, didn't make a difference.

It's wierd that the drive can read CDs and DVDs just fine, but can't burn anything, but the LightScribe works just fine!
