I have two seperate Toshiba L500 laptop machines with Nero 7 installed. In any mode where we require to burn a disc it ejects the original media after the information has been written to the temporary file and asks to insert a blank disc of varies types, after the new blank disc is inserted the drive spins up for a short moment then stops and nothing happens, no error messages nothing. The dialog box is saying disc type, empty. Eventually the disc drive error message appears saying it is not responding.Nero burns discs with programmes like Shrink normally. But will not get beyond the checking disc stage when trying to disc copy (DVD's or CD's)or make a data file.It is the same on both new computers but this Nero 7 version works perfectly on my two PC's that we have.Any clues as the Nero info section detects the disc's whether blank or not so the programme recognises the drive and all seems OK.

Please post a Nero log to help us diagnose your problem.

    It is located here:

    Program Files/Nero/Nero 7/Core/NeroHistory

Just to be clear, you have two old PCs on which Nero 7 works fine, and now two new PCs which you're experiencing the errors on?

Okay, well a log from both new PC you are having issues with would be helpful if possible.

Are these the same DVDs you were using in your old PC? Perhaps if you bought these new PCs, the drives may need a firmware update. We'll be able to determine all this from a log :)

Thanks Ripper, yes I always use the same brand DVD's , I have had a look in the log section but I'm not sure where to find the log you are referring too. The new laptops are Toshiba and I had a look at there site support and downloaded and ran updates for these drives but it did no good.

The log file should be named NeroHistory.txt, search for it and see if you have any luck.

Have you tried a different brand of DVD in the new laptop drives? You could also try using another burning software, such as IMGBurn (guides available) or InfraRecorder (open source, free version of Nero Burning ROM, essentially).

    Hi Ripper
still no luck with this disc check thing in Nero, found the drive installed is in fact a Samsung brand, located a driver update ran it and all it seemed to do was change the model number of the drive? It sure is baffling as the problem seems to be mismatch between the drive and Nero burning ROM its hard to know as there are no error messages.
Other burning programmes work fine no problems but thats not the problem.Where is the NeroHistory.txt file located.?

I've already told you where it is located up there ^^

I presume the driver update you're referring to is actually a firmware update - and it changed the lettering AFTER your drive model? Be more specific.
