You guys have always been very helpful to me so here goes: I recorded a memorial service on a Sony Mini DV in the HD mode. I copied the camera file to 3 4.7 GB DVD-R discs (finalized and ready to play on any DVD player, which they do), due to the 2 1/2 hour length of the program. Now I just want to copy all 3 files on the 4.7 GB DVD's onto a DVD+R DL 8.5 GB (there is enough space) so I can give the family a single disc with the service on it. I am using Nero 7 Essentials and I cannot get any of the program choices to allow this transfer. When I try to copy all of the info on the 3 discs, I get a box which states that they all have the same file name, so when I try to copy the #2 disc to my hard drive on my Laptop, it wants to replace the first disc info, and will not let me rename the #2 disc because it says it is a read only disc, and will allow no changes. What path in Nero 7 should I use? This seems like it should be very easy but I cannot figure it out. I have succesfully use this program and my outboard DVD reader/burner (HP DVD 1040e) to transfer AVI files to 4.7 GB DVD-R discs to play in a DVD player. I don't know if I have given you enough info to help me but I will be glad to add anything that would help me solve this problem. Thanks. Dave
Of the top of my head, don’t use Nero to copy the files to your hardrive, load the disk when it auto plays stop it, open my computer drag and drop all the files on the first disk say to my documents and rename it after its done, do the same for the other disks, when done open Nero and build your compilation in vision.
That's a rather convoluted and awkward approach. @ wagtail You would open Nero Vision-> Make DVD-> DVD-Video. You would them Import each disc one at a time, no drag/drop or renaming on your end. Once they are listed (it may take awhile) you can choose to merge the 3 titlesets into one. You could also add chapters at this point. I would also make sure to author in 16:9 for folks that may have newer flat screens. What I would try though is to go for a SL 4.7GB disc. 2 1/2 hours of a basically static/no real movement per se memorial service should look just fine. There no reason for a high bitrate which is only needed for fast action scenes. The advantage of this will be a much more compatable DVD that should play in ever ones player. DL discs are iffy on the burning side and the playing side. Do note your Essentials version may be crippled though. If it only offers LPCM audio (an unnecessary 1GB space hog) you may have to go DL. Nero has a habit of leaving things out to get you to upgrade.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was able to burn 2 copies of the memorial, one on a Sony DL 8.5 GB disc (high quality) and one on a SL Memorex 4.7GB (Extended Play). Amazingly, the SL is slightly higher quality BUT has formatting (chapter) and noise issues, so I am sticking with the DL. But it takes 3 1/2 hours to burn one disc on my HP 1040e (20X), for a 2 1/2 hour program, even though I set the Nero program to allow for maximum speed (it only allows me max or 2X as choices, for some reason). Is this normal? I have 30 of these to burn for family members so it will take forever.
