    Hello

Recently the burning speed of nero Premium 7 has slowed down dramatically.
I am burning mpegs/avi’s to a dvd-r & despite burning at a claimed 16x it is taking a very long time 2 burn.
The writing process will start quickly, the “remainting time” clock will show that there is 30 sec left but when the progress bar moves a 1/4 of the way it stops, the remaining time clock will count down to zero but the write process wont even be ¼ of the way finished. It will stay there for a while until the remaining time clock resets itself & shows 30 minutes to burn & then the process will resume writing.
This is ridiculously slow. Also, the remaining time & Total time clocks flash/blink whilst burning.
I have tried reinstalling nero but this hasn’t helped.
    I would appreciate any feedback.

"Recently", have you installed any new software?

Check and see if DMA is still on for your burner. If is in PIO mode, turn it back to DMA mode.

Thank you for responding but unfortunately this didn’t rectify the problem
Both the Primary & Secondary IDE Channels said “DMA if available”
Out of desperation I uninstalled the DVD Rom drive, restarted the computer & Nero is still taking forever to burn.
Not only that, there is a ridiculously loud noise coming out of the DVD drive whilst it is burning.
Is there anything else I can do ? Should I just format my hard drive ?

Burning a disk at 16x won't work if the media your using does'nt support it.

Lets assume the previous burns on the same media were done a lot quicker & now things are burning slower, that the case i'd try a known good dvd burner in place of the one your using then go from there

How old is that burner?Loud noises and stuff...might be the time to let it go...or have it serviced, but with the prices of a DVD burner nowadays($30 for something decent), servicing might not be worth it.
