My first post so please bear with me.

Recently I upgraded from N6 to N8 after testing it for the trial period of 2 weeks, & have found it most satisfactory for my purposes.

It was downloaded on line & obviously not the boxed version.

Wondering about the possibility of it crashing one day I have contacted Nero Support regarding the supply of a backup disk, but the information coming back seems a little wanting & vague so maybe someone here could explain please?.

Initially I noted their written condition that the cd/dvd is only available in Europe & North America & assumed it for postal reasons. I don't know why this is, as Nero is worldwide. Seems most odd to me. ??????
I asked if Canada & the UK were included in that, & was advised they were, my thinking being that I would purchase the disk & have it posted to friends for forwarding to Australia.
I have since found out that another friend has relocated to Germany, so I thought, this gets even better.

Nero confirm that the disk can be posted to the above countries, but for some unexplained reason I cannot order it.
Unexplained, due to no reason for this odd condition being offered.

    See my confusion?

The only suggestion that has been made by them is:

I asked this question initially if there was an alternative method & that was the response. I don't understand what they mean & they have not explained, just ignoring the question.
I did try to copy from all the files to make a disk, but it had so many "Retry/Skip" errors I doubted it would have worked in the event of me needing it.
Also, I "think" I read on a Nero site somewhere, that in the event of a failure I can use my registration information & download N8 again. I am not sure if this is what was implied or not as I have looked at so many sites lately. :(
If you have read this far, could some kind soul please confirm or deny whether I am on the right tram car?

I have never had to deal with Nero Support before & thus far have found it a bit frustrating. Will someone now say, "Welcome to the wonderful world of Nero support?" :)

    Thank you

    No-one at all?

I thought this would be a straightforward query.

This is a very straightforward query!
You need no installation CD. All you do is, downoald the Nero installer, the EXE file. When you click on the "Download", choose "Save", and save it to disc.If you like, copy it on a data CD, store it in your computer, whatever you wish. Although, most likely it can be downloaded at any time from the net. However, Nero will come probably with more updates and bug fixes for version 8, which means new installers will be available.
The only reason I see that one would want to have a back up is in case one would not have access to internet. If you do save Nero's installer, you might also want to save Nero's Clean Tool, just in case you have to remove Nero and do a clean install.

The installer, the exe file will not be in your Nero folder. If I am understanding corectly, you were trying to copy the entire Nero directory to a CD after installation. You don't need that, just the installation file. If you cannot find the installer(it would not be in the Nero folder anyway), probably you did not save it, you just ran it from its location on the web.

After you click "Save", a window will open asking to choose a location on your Hard Drive for your file

I'm not sure how to edit my post but thinking about this a bit more, you are saying that I should never need a CD if I have a legitimate, registered copy of N8 on my computer?

I gather the above method can always be used if the computer crashes & I need a full installation again.

This was one of my first queries to Tech Support was..............
The question was asked twice, but both times was really ignored or when asked to expand the advice, they did not. You have. Thank you both.

If I do not need a CD then I won't bother with it. Always assuming that Nero will still be in business if/when I need it, but the way they appear to treat their clients I do wonder. :(

Set me right if you believe I am incorrect, but if this is so, then that's what I will do.

    Okay.Plain and simple:
All you actually need to do is write your serial number somehwere safe-not in your computer(you can put it with your will in a safe deposit bank, tatoo it on you biceps, send it to yourself in an email so you could access it from Japan or Brasil, if for example you were to travel there, and while wating for the sun to come out, you wanted to burn a DVD!). All you need to do is save the serial number.
If a lightning strikes, and your PC is completely fried beyond any recovery, Nero is safe. All you have to do is get another PC, go online and run the installer and enter your serial number. Done.
If at that time you don't have internet access, you can go to the office, go to the neigbour, anyone that has internet access, download the installer, copy it on your USB drive, go home, install it, enter your serial, done.
If you want to avoid bothering the neigbours or going to the office in a weekend just to get a Nero installer, then save the installer onto a CD, ot 2,3...just in case they get damaged. However, nero 8 is buggy right now, and they will come up with several updates. If you really backup a nero 8 installer, I would wait until there is a proven stable version.
As for the tech support from Nero...good luck!!!

:) So not just me then?

I should have come here when the going started to get tough. I have picked up more in a couple of posts than the million I had with nero. They don't even seem to speak the same language, which is poor for an international concern.

One last question. If I wish to install another copy, do I need to uninstall the current one first?

Thanks again. I'll buy you a cyber beer.

Yes, you do have to uninstall the current version and do a clean install of the update. I order to do that, you download the Nero 8 Clean Tool,(follow the instructions), remove the current version and then install the new one.

As for the beer, if you live in the States, anywhere close to Illinois/Wisconsin, I'll take a cold one:~) If not, a cyber one is good too!

Glad you got the plot now just some advice any software you download from the internet and buy is exactly the same as if you brought it from the high street shop only difference is its not on a disk but the good side of it is that is its usually cheaper reason being you’ve saved on the packaging and postage and the disk but like its been said make sure you put your serial numbers somewhere save and the program in case your pc crashes just back them up on a cdr or a cdrw use Nero and make a data disk best of luck.
