Hi Hoping someone can help. I am having trouble burning a few AVI files in Nero. I hadnt been able to burn any dvds for a while. I thought it may have been the discs I was using but I recently updated the hardware and this allowed me to successfully burn dvd files. Trying to do this with AVIs I had no such luck. After encoding I get an error message saying it cant burn it to this disc. I assure that I am not using as CD-R as the error tells me (Compilation cannot be written on that medium type.(Medium in drive: DVD-R. Medium required by compilation: CD-R/RW.) I have also tried a different DVD-R. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks
Post the log of a burning session. http://my.afterdawn.com/locoeng/blog_entry.cfm/385 Alternatively, save the output from the Nero conversion to the hard drive instead of burning immediately. Burn the video folder using Imgburn. The link includes a guide to burning the video folder using Imgburn. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm
Hi again Here is the log from it. It seems to say that it requires a CD-R not a DVD R. I definately pressed video complication not audio compliation. I swear other times it had failed and sais that I had a CD-R in the drive. anyway any help would be great. While not ideal, if i burn it as an image - wil i then be able to watch it as a DVD? thanks Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 8.1.1.0 Internal Version: 8, 1, 1, 0 (Nero Express) Recorder: <_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A> Version: 203E - Thanks, I had selected video cd because it said creates a video cd from your video files that can be played on most DVD players. I assumed this was the correct one to burn AVI's as when I tried the DVD video file option I only have the option to select files that end in bup,vob or ifo, and not the option to add AVI files. what am I doing wrong? should I be able to add avi files to a DVD video project? thanks
If your standalone player is DivX certified it can play AVI files that have simply been burned to a CD or DVD as data files. An example might be a file that is 700MB, this will fit a regular CD. If you wish to burn a group of AVI files to a data DVD, then you can add up to 4 GB of data. If you are using an XP machine, burning a data CD can be done by the copy and paste method to the disk - note that XP cannot burn data to DVD's directly - the free program 'ImgBurn' can do this. If your player cannot handle AVI files directly, then you have the option of converting to a VCD or movie DVD format. The VCD format uses CDs and the running time cannot be more than 80 minutes (just like an audio CD). A DVD disk has a larger capacity and holds two hours of running time easily and could be pushed to four hours (with a further loss of quality). Creating VCDs and movie DVDs needs a program like Nero.
