    Hey all/anyone,

I had Upgraded from Nero 6 to latest retail version of Nero 8. I've had some success burning in the past using Nero v. 6.x, but it just quit working a few weeks back. Went for full upgrade thinking that would be issue.

I have HP media and a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652L (Samsung?). On HP lightscribe media, DVD +R, 16x on HP Presario 2050NX running MCE. (I am trying to burn a backup of docs, files, and .pst files using Burning ROM)

I attempted to upgrade the version of the firmware using an HP provided update. (Used a bootable jump drive to run, seems to have worked. Not sure what version firmware was previously)

Uninstalled, reinstalled controllers just in case, DMA mode appears/appeared correctly.

Looked through forums for errors: illegal disk, end of disk, etc. Seems like I've checked most things.

(Put in wrong media once today by accident, but fixed that) :)

    Any help appreciated.

your media is made by one of the worst manufacturers making media. change to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim if you want better results. Using quality media is important and if you're having trouble burning this is one of the reasons why!! If it worked for you before, consider yourself lucky...... now you're having trouble.... because:

    037303
    --------->power calibration area error
There are many cases where there is a problem with the disc, or information cannot be retrieved from the disc properly. The PC may be unstable or try a new disc.

change your media and have success.... good luck. and welcome to Afterdawn.

Also burn at half the rated speed of the disk. Just because a car can run at 120MPH doesn't mean you drive it at that speed when you're going to the shopping mall. so if your disk is a 16x disk burn at 8x! Play it safe.

    Interesting.

I would have assumed with the big HP name the package, it would be decent media.

I will get some different media and report back in a day or two.

Also, when you refer to 'The PC may be unstable', are we talking about a power fluctuation at the DVD drive itself, hard drive, or a general system power issue?

    Thanks, much.

    UPDATED:

I just ran a Nero Drive Speed check and received the following error:

    "[22:09:10] Drive: TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-H652L 0603
    [22:09:10] Disc: Data CD, 69:41.28,
[22:10:08] Error - TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT (043E02)
[22:10:33] Error - TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT (043E02)

I'm going to do some searches on this error. Any ideas?

I would do the simplest thing you can do ...... CHANGE YOUR MEDIA! before trying other things. A power calibrationerror is causing your problem. And power calibration problems are 99% of the time caused by the media used! Use the good stuff... Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim..... if you are using Verbatim, make sure it's made in Taiwan/Singapore! check label of the spindle or box! Do not buy the Verbatims made in India!

I tried some Maxell DVD-R media I had (4x). I used these in the past on my other system to back up the kids DVDs and create home movies with. (That media worked fine on old Plextor drive) It did not work with this drive/system at all. Same failure log.

I tried a Sony DVD+RW and it burned my backup with out a problem.

It seems the media makes a big difference. Looks like I'm going to have to buy some new media.

Thanks much for the assistance on this. :)

BTW, I recreated the firmware bootable thumb drive and tried to upgrade firmware again.(Same file I had) After booting, system just beeped at me and left me with a cryptic dos prompt. Apparently it is not updating the firmware as I thought.

I will play around with that a bit to see if firmware might help me use some of this @$$ media I have laying around. ;)
