i've been using nero 8 to burn data dvd's and nero vision to burn dvd movies, for quite some time now. lately i've been experiencing problems with this software as i can't seem to burn a data dvd, without having errors in the verification process. i tried doing a simulation burn first, but with simulation turned on, the software refuses to initiate the actual burn process. if i don't turn the simulation option on, the burn process would be successful, however, data verification would fail and i would end up with a data dvd with some file on it corrupted or damaged to the point that i would not be able to access those said files. i tried uninstalling nero 8 and used nero 8 clean tool, i did another clean install but to no avail. i tried using NTI media maker 8, and it did burn and verify a data dvd successfully but there are errors on some files when i access it, either the files would not be accessed or would hang in the middle of the process. i have also tried lowering the write speed to 2x instead of 8x in case the burner could not burn at that speed. i'am wondering now, is it my dvd burner: sony dw-q58a or is it nero or is it my OS that is causing such errors and how do i go about it? i am in need of writing some of my files to facilitate a reformat on my HDD. i hope some of you would shed some light. here's the most recent log file on my latest attempt at burning a data dvd using nero 8 with the simulation option turned on. TIA to those who would answer.

The laser lens on laptop burners can get dirty very easily. Try giving it a real good cleaning.
If you happen to have a different brand of media available, try them.

    Hi,
I've been having problems burning data dvd's in nero. I thought it was the software, so I downloaded some burn4free program which also gave me an error. I have been able to burn cd's and video dvd's fine. I can also play cd's and dvd's fine. I have a Matshita UJ-840D drive which I can't find firmware to update. I'm not a computer expert so I'm not sure what to do next. Below is the log of my last try
