My pc has Windows XP-Home, Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghx processor, 2 gig RAM, 200 gig HD, a DVD/CD RW, and a CD-ROM. Something happened to my system and it became unable to burn DVDs (I cannot think of any system change I may have made associated with this problem.) I continue to be able to burn CDs in the same drive and can read both DVDs and CDs, and can rip CDs and DVDs. I have now installed the Windows Service Packet-3 and I purchased and installed Nero-8 hoping to correct the problem as I had been wanting to upgrade to Nero-8 anyway. I had been using Nero-6. Neither installation/update has helped the problem. I would greatly appreciate any help regarding this problem. Thanks in advance.
well........ there are plenty of reasons why you are having problems but there is no way to tell what problem you have until you give us more information! If you don't show us a Nero Log then we can only speculate your problem: 1. your burner might need a firmware update to burn to newer media that you are using. 2.your files that you are trying to burn are corrupt and Nero can't process them properly so you get a failed burn. 3.you might be using poor quality media and Nero is having a hard time and fails because of it. 4.Nero says it burned ok but it won't play on your DVD player! Incompatible format, burned too fast, burned too close to the edge of your disk, etc. there are too many variables to mention why you are having a problem without showing us what you did and what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it! NERO LOG PLEASE!
How old is your burner. A dead burner can still read and write cds but not DVDs some times. Do you have a spare to replace the one you're having trouble with? IHoe also gave other good advice as usuaul. I would and did pass on XP SP-3 but I am using nero 8 ultimate and having no problems with it. Recode ,express and neroBurnRom all functioning fine with dvds.
Thanks guys! I have made the changes you have suggested, re: burn speed, driver update, etc. No progress. With the number of DVD drive probs. I'm having, I can only conclude that it iis associated with the drive itself. I now see it is not only with Nero, but with every program that I use in attempts to try to bur DVDs. Also, about 95% of the time that I insert a blank DVD to burn the entire system shuts down and attempts to reboot, a usually not successfully until I remove the DVD. This also hapens on occasion when I insert blank CDs and even l;ess frequently when I insert DVDs and CDs that I have burned or that are commercially burned. At this point, I believe that I am going to purchae a new DVD drive and see how that goes. I will update after installing the new drive...a week or so from now. I sincerely that you both for you courteous and most educated assistance.
Are you using AnyDVD? If you are, try this for me. Rip the disc with AnyDVD's ripper. Close(disable) anyDVD and open the files in NeroRecode and proceed as usual.
I've never heard of AnyDVD. However, I'll give it a try as I haven't purchased a new DVD drive yet. I'll update afterwards. Thanks.
Re: Garmon's reply of 30 June, 2008 @ 18:24 - I downloaded AnyDVD and installed it. The next step of the suggestions indicates that I am to "Rip the disk with AnyDVD's ripper." The problem is, I don't know what disk "the disk" is. Please advise. Thanks.
I think you're lost and confused; Anyways... I'm having trouble with Nero also; I've been using Nero since their beginning, always I have update it to the next version and all, but I have notice in the latest versions from #6 to #7, that was working everything good and all, all of sudden a lot of problems occurred just right after the next update or new release of Nero, for sometime now Nero Burning ROM always crash and I'm not able to use it at all, only I'm able to use the Express Mode (also crashes and freeze a lot).... wired! Now, I'm not bother with Nero anymore, in fact I do not recommend it.
@smsts since you were not using Anydvd, that was not the problem. The disk was the dvd you were having trouble backing up.
I have been using Nero 7 for some time with no problem. I purchased the DVD burning code extension from Nero but now about 50% of the files I wish to burn to DVD will not burn I get an error message ( not all necassary licenses have been activated please follow the instructions on screen to activate your license)I have done this several times but the problem persists. Even Nero agree that I have the required software installed and can only suggest that I purchase Nero 8. Theres a surprise. ! Any suggestions anyone ?
Re: Garmoon's and IHoe's advice(s). After troubleshooting according to the processes that you both suggested (including downloading AnyDVD and attempting to use it), I determined that the problem must reside with the DVD recorder (drive) itself. I therefore purchased and installed a new "LiteOn" Writer (Drive). Thankfully, that immediately resolved all of the problems I had been having: the burning problems, and the problems I was having when I would insert a dvd to burn and about 25% of the time that would cause my entire system to shut down and attempt to reboot - which was successful less than 50% of the time. Now, my system is working well. So, long story made short...THANK YOU both so very much for your courteous assistance, time and effort!!! God Bless -
@smsts Thanks for replying what your problem was and how you fixed it. It will help others who might have a similar problem.
