Hi,
I have tried out nero 8 and found out nero 8 is a piece of crap.
Output result is horrible plus terrible. The images of the background result is even unexplainable. And the function of the animation doesnt work at all. Have tried the advance button and as the matter of fact I have tried all the functions but the animation function couldnt work. Better stick nero 7 or nero 6 or else you are asking for trouble. The trouble is it is very hard to completely get rid of nero 8 from your system meaning you cant even uninstal nero 8 at all. Have to go thru different kind of software so to get rid of the piece of stupid nero 8 software..

I, myself have tried Nero 8 and reverted back to Nero 7. You can perhaps download the General Clean Tool from official website if you are having problems uninstalling Nero 8.

Nero 8, is the greatest thing since sliced bread! During the free trial period, I have used every program within the Nero software bundle. Everything works just fine! Just the way it should. Makes great quality DVD Backup copies! Using Nero 6, is like using windows 98. It just doesn't make any sense using out dated software. All comments welcome!

I'm sure you've already tried using add/remove programs. Try searching all files and folders and removing it this way. Or delete it from the registy. START/RUN/REGEDIT/ HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/NERO, also remove it from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/NERO. Or how about System Restore, roll back the registry to a point just before you installed NERO 8. Always, a good idea to first create a restore point before installing ANY software. You may have had a driver conflict since the NERO interface was inactive. Does your operation system meet the installation requirements? Is your system a 32 bit or 64 bit? Is you system fully updated? Hows Device Manager looking? et cetera.

Cheers!

8 has just been released and if it's like the previous versions, will be subject to many improvements and bug fixes. I have versions 6, 7 and 8 installed on three different PCs. I can get all of them to work. I mainly just use Burning ROM to burn DVDs with. (The second major usage that my Nero versions get is trying to figure out other people's problems by trying to duplicate their failed or flawed projects. I'm an Addict, what can I say?)

Nero can be bloated and annoying. I would never do a standard install of any version and always keep it away from my file assoiations. I don't need or want Nero Home, Nero MediaHome or InCD, nor the Ask or Yahoo toolbar, so I make sure they don't get installed.

@henryting,
I think I saw a previous post you or someone else had made about the menu animation. I couldn't answer because I hadn't tried it yet. I haven't done that yet so I can't say anything, good or bad about it.
I've got the other PC with Nero 8 on it booting up, I'll try making a short movie with an animated menu. I'll post back if I get something done. I'm just going to take some clips from a ripped DVD, assemble them and add a menu.

Edit..
@QuikDraw,
Excellent points! :)

I'd agree Nero Home is not as good as Windows Media Center software. And if you already have a Media Center, there is no reason to install NERO HOME. InCD?

Well, I'm leaning towards henryting's view of Vision 5's menu editor. lol.

I went ahead and downloaded the Nero 8 "B" version as well as one of the template packages.

I suppose a menu means different things to different people but to me it is a feature that let's you choose different options when you first put your DVD in the player. simple enough!
I spent about 5 hours trying to get it to do that without much luck.

What I did was cut the DVD movie "The Good Shepard" into three separate clips and then added the clips into NVE5. I could have just as easily added the entire thing but I thought I'd end up with three title sets and make it quicker to simply make three chapters. Which it did. Later on I let it "Autodetect" chapters and ended up with 24 random chapters.

My observations:
The advanced editing features work if you have hardware acceleration which I do. I'm running two 8800 GTS video cards in SLI with an overclocked Core 2 Duo 6850 processor and 2 Gigs of RAM.
PC power is not an issue.

You cannot use the advanced editing feature when using the 3D templates. Read this:
ftp://ftp6.nero.com/user_guides/nero8/vision/NeroVision_Enu.pdf

For the thumbnail pictures in the menu, do not try and grab a bit of "stop motion" from the chapter in question. You are better off taking a screenshot and saving that, then using it for the thumbnail. Otherwise it's blurry.

The linking is pathetic at best. I expect a simple root menu to be able to link to two things at a minimum.

There should be a link to the main movie and another link to the chapter menu.
You can have only one button on this menu.

I linked the single available button to the main movie. It was either that or have it linked to the chapters menu, one or the other, I couldn't have both. I thought that the virtual remote would access the chapters menu but that didn't work either.
Tell me if I missed something here. I'll look at this issue more later.

Adding the intro video clip really screws things up; It caused the movie to go directly to the movie and neither the intro video or any menu played.

I've used other menu programs and this is pretty awful. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks they are going to do very much with this. If you want to actually enjoy making menus that work, get Mediachance's DVD Lab.

Vision 5 or whatever they call it now is not a finished product as far as I'm concerned.

I'll give it another go tomorrow.

fasfrank,
Can I check with you whether DVD-lab PRO 2.0 is able to add animation in the menu? Your quick reply is greatly appreciated.

Good advice on the custom install.

I've just custom re-installed my nero 8 without the excess baggage of NeroHome, NeroMediaHome or even NeroBackItUP and i even went one further and removed nero scout by running:
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

Hi henryting,
Yes, take a look at this:
http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/motionmenu.html

This is serious software so you will have to read the instructions and be prepared buy and to use an encoding program of some sort. Recommended are the ones from Procoder, Main concept, CinemaCraft, etc. (You might get away with using NeroVision's encoder) but it might be awkward to do so.

Also be aware that DVD Lab is not an editing program but an authoring program.
Nero Vision is both.
Please make sure you read as much as possible before using DVD Lab. Plan on several test projects to learn the program get the feel for it.
I have the basic version which does all I need. I don't use it often enough to be an expert at it. I did download the manual and spent a few hours reading it, then researching the stuff I didn't understand.

Using these more advanced authoring programs will certainly make you more knowledgable about how DVD structure works.

I don't think I'd get the Pro version to start with.

@Guyy,
Excellent! You know more about getting at stuff than I do. Do I run this from the Start > Run... or ? I'd like to do it correctly the first time, hehe.

Yep, to remove Nero Scout in Nero7, run:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

and in Nero 8,run:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

Cheers.

I couldn't figure it out either. Here is the answer from Nero's tech support.

-----------------

You can create animated buttons in Nero Vision 5 as follows:

Switch to CUSTOMIZE - ADVANCED EDITING
Go to BUTTONS and drag and drop a button to the menu
Select the button
Go to PROPERTIES
--Choose LINKAGE
----From LINKAGE, click the LINK TO menu and pick a movie file
--Now go to APPEARANCE
----From APPEARANCE, click the DISPLAY menu and choose DISPLAY TITLE
----Once you choose "Display Title", you will get an animated button.
@PRYME H, What didn't you like about NERO 8?
My case I think is personal. Coincidentally, my PC has been infected by a virus while tinkering with a problem about my dvd burner which I think affected the speed of Nero. But, I'm pretty sure that if I were to try it now everything will be smooth-sailing since I've recovered my PC's health. I'm glad everyone has nothing but success stories about it though.

Seems there are no release notes (on the Nero site) I wonder what the differences are between 8.1.1.0 & 8.1.1.0b? What are they doing? Releasing a public beta?
