I've had this problem with my laptop once before. 7 or 8 months ago it started, I wiped clean and formatted my laptop, and I was able to burn CD's again. 6 or 7 months later, something I've installed or used is causing it again. I have an eMachine 6807 with a Pioneer DVR-K12D DVD+\-RW. I haven't tried in the last few weeks to burn a DVD, but I haven't run into any problems regarding those. CD's on the other hand... I can't close sessions or discs. If I try to burn a CD, Nero acts like it's working correctly, says complete, but the disc isn't closed. If I pull the disc info up, it shows that it is open, but when I click close disc or close session, it acts like it's attempting to, but stops about halfway through and makes no changes. I have tried a variety of media, and it's consistent with all types. It looks that Nero have been set for closing the disc and not doing a multisession disc, but have you tried using another version of nero or another burning program, maybe summ is causing the problem with that specific version of nero, also try checking your computer for viruses or spyware (Although a far possibility is better to be sure this is not the problem) so my main recommendation first its to try using another burning program or different version of nero and check if you cant still close sessions or cd's Tell me how you do ;-)
I have tried a few different verions of Nero 6, and the one I'm using now has worked in the past, it just doesn't work now. I have also scanned for adware\spyware\viruses, as well as uninstalled all cd burning software or traces of it so I could try starting from scratch.
Ok, also try updating the firmware of your drive, tell me how you do when burning with other burning software OTHER than nero. Inform me if still cant close discs.
same device, same nero version, same problem. sony vaio notebook with dvr-k12d, and I don't know how to deal with this stuff either. edit : I updated the firmware, reinstalled the aspi drivers, did some drive cleaning, checked the reg keys - nothing helped. oh, and I get errors with other programs as well.

the closing step itself seems to destroy the disk/make it unreadable. multisession burning works fine. I'm confused.
I cleaned the drive, and it worked maybe 1 out of 8 times. Cleaned it again, and got a little bit better success rate. Finally I just gave it a really, really good cleaning, and now it seems to be working alright. Hopefully it was just dirty, not dying.
