Hello - first post here for me. I have read all the other Backitup Restore problems on here and elsewhere, and can't find anyone who has had the same problem, so I hope someone can help!

I recently reformatted my hard drive, and backed up everything to an external hard drive, using Nero BackItup. (I have Nero 6). I have previously restored from a Nero back up with no problems.

However, this time the restore didn't work properly - it attempts to restore each of 1500 files and says 'failed' at the end of each line.

This problem is not too serious, as I didn't get Nero to compress the files, so they are just plain copies of my documents, however, they all have DOS 8.3 filenames. I would really like to be able to restore the back up properly so that I don't need to attempt to rename 1500 files!

I can't see any reason why the back up would have failed. The only thing that occurs to me (and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't have any effect) is that the Ext Hard Drive used to be Drive G and is now drive E. In the long string of file location and name for each file being restored it mentions G: as the location... Can it possibly be confused by this? If so, how do I tell my computer to think of the Hard Drive as G: not E:???

    Hope someone can help me!

Try changing the drive letter back to 'g'.

Right click on 'My Computer' > 'Manage' > 'Disk Management'.
Select the external drive in the lower/right window.

Thank you very much for your help - I renamed the External HD to drive G, and lo and behold... the back up worked - I really hadn't expected it to.

So thank you so much for that advice - it has saved me weeks of file renaming!

Hats off to JKaye for really understanding the problem, just not knowing how to restore the computer to it's previous condition. I wish we had more members like you who think things thru and describe the problem fully instead of just plain posting "Nero 6 sucks and doesn't work anymore." Welcome to AD by the way.
