firstly free up some memory or invest in another 512 stick

    and
I may be wrong on this, but you may have fake Taiyo Yuden media. I know real Tys don't code out like this with all zeroes and nothing after the zeroes. If you can post what DVD Identifier (free program here under software tab) says the media is, and the numbers on the media side of the disc, on inner hub, Doc/a.k.a. Kivory666 can tell you if you have fake Ty's or not.
You seem to have the current firmware for your drive:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1650
so i would suspect the media as being a problem, along with your memory problem as mybarras pointed out.

    hello ericwh,

i can tell you RIGHT now that those discs are TDK's own MANUFACTURED discs, which, PERSONALLY, i DESPISE~ even more so than the Memosux~! :)

the TTG02 coding is that of the 8x dvd-r on TDK's own manufactured media, i PERSONALLY have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS with them on all 6 of my various burners, so, as a PERSONAL opinion, i would definitely change media...

i do not own an ASUS drive, but, have heard good things...so, i don't think that is the problem...

this is directly from Nero's mouth LOL :

    "http://www.nero.com/en/FAQs_Error_Messages.html#9 - "

    9. I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either [bold]poor media [/bold] (this is where I emphasize this point), poor power, or a defective recorder.

    Please try the following solutions:

Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service."

but, hey, if THOSE TDK discs are working for you, so be it...like i said, i would use something different, but it's YOUR money and your media of choice...

hope that points you in the right direction, everything else seems fine~ :)

    good luck

    Thanx Guys

I took Nero off and re-installed and didnt put the updates on and i actually burned a dvd at 4 speed with no problems.

I take your point about the disks and i will get some decent media as recommend in other posts.

    Thanx for your help

good to hear you've made some head-way into your dvd burning, congrats :)

regarding the media, my dislike of TDK media is a PERSONAL one, it's not the general consensus, but, getting better media is definitely NOT a bad idea~ it WILL prove it's own worth in the long run...good luck~

Guys just a thought after reading this

and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector.

If i recall my writer and rom are on the same ide cable ill have to set it to single only although that could be a bit awkward i have 4 hard drives in lol plus the rom and writer.

    Many Thanx once again
