Hello all. I am having issues burning dvds using nero. I can rip dvds with no problem. I can also rip and burn cds with no problem. The only issue I have is burning dvds. DVD bruning usually fails between 60% and 80% done. I have searched the forums and haven't found anyone having the same issue. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. my system info: OS: windows xp home edition 5.1 with service pack 2 processor: AMD Anthlon 64 3200 memory: 768 MB RAM DVD/CD Burner: AOPEN DUW/1608/ARR (with latest firmware installed) Media Used: Maxell DVD-r 8x ---------------------------- Here is my nero log: Windows XP 5.1 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.60 (1021), size=45056 bytes, created 9/10/1999 12:06:00 PM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.68, size=160016 bytes, created 7/22/2004 4:33:44 PM Nero version: 6.3.1.26 (Nero Express) Recorder: <AOPEN DUW1608/ARR> Version: A080 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.3.1.26 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <AOPEN DUW1608/ARR >Version: A080 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.3.1.26 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : AOPEN DUW1608/ARR atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2000JD-55HBB0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : ST380011A atapi Port 5 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === AOPEN DUW1608/ARR D: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (83886080) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 767MB (785904kB) Free physical memory: 434MB (445184kB) Memory in use : 43 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 24.7.2005 UDF/ISO compilation 8:01:52 PM #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855 DVD-Video files reallocation started 8:01:52 PM #2 Phase 114 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 8:01:52 PM #3 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6083 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet :FALSE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : FALSE Allow more than 255 characters in path : FALSE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 8:01:52 PM #4 Phase 111 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855 DVD-Video files sorted 8:01:52 PM #5 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 126 Reader running 8:01:52 PM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 124 Writer AOPEN DUW1608/ARR running 8:01:52 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 8:01:52 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 8:01:52 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3152 Turn on Disc-at-once, using DVD media 8:01:52 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 247 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 1998351 (444:04.51, 3903MB) 8:01:52 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 259 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 8:01:52 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2162 Recorder: AOPEN DUW1608/ARR, Media type: DVD+R 8:01:52 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 420 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 8:01:52 PM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 813 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 (CTransferItem) 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 1998352 (1998352) = #1998352/444:4.52 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 1998352 blocks [AOPEN DUW1608/ARR ] -------------------------------------------------------------- 8:01:52 PM #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 984 Prepare recorder [AOPEN DUW1608/ARR ] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; The latest version didn't want to work at all with my Aopen duw/1608/arr. So I went back to using the version that made the log above. It was the version shipped with my DVD/cd burner. I have tried to burn DVDs using other software (after uninstalling Nero and using the clean tool before installing them). DVD Decryptor and DVDsanta both had burn failures. Out of a pack of 25 maxell dvd-r's I have managed to burn 1 dvd successfully and it was the first one I tried. After that I have made a bunch of coasters. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance, Vehement
@vehement - i've taken note of your comments but am gonna focus on the logfile for now - - that is way too old. there's nothing unique about your drive that Nero doesn't like. install latest Nero and give us the output of a section of logfile and the output from nero info-tool. - drive is only partially recognising the media - all it can tell here is that's a +R disc - splat. go thru the motions of installing 6.6.0.15 again, then do a 'simulation' burn in Nero and provide that section of logfile.. without a current logfile we can't progress properly.. @RagePro - firmware updating is essential as it teaches burners about media types/newer media/burn speeds etc and it's only ever a problem if te firmware update is interrupted mid-update, ie from power failure or resetting the pc, as that corrupts the drive due to incomplete firmware update
To add to what creaky stated about a firmware flash never leave a disk in the drive while doing it, you will really get a meltdown
Thanks Creaky and others for taking the time to respond to my burning problem. The company that built my computer have replaced the burner (AOpen Duw/1608/arr) with a new burner (Aopen Duw/1616/ARR). (My computer was still covered by warranty) The techs who built my computer told me that Aopen had sent out a batch of burners (model# DUW/1608/ARR) that had issues with burning DVD's due to a "faulty lower chip". However I think it's strange that nothing is mentioned about it on the AOpen website. Anyway I have been able to burn DVDs without any hassles with the new burner. Of course I will not torture my new burner with any memorex media. Thanks again for the responses. --Vehement
