Nero burn failure - version 6...18

I've used DVD Shrink and Nero (6..18)to copy and burn DVDs for several months with no problems. But for the past few weeks Nero fails to burn at any speed, sometimes burning only a few seconds of material, sometimes up to a half hour, leaving me with a number of coasters. I have XP Home, more than half C drive memory available. Last night I deleted Nero, used the cleaner, reinstalled Nero, but still got a failure. I don't know what the problem might be or how to begin to correct it. If anyone has any advice I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Update your firmware here:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2294

Your DMA needs to be ON. Here is a great guide:
    http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

And it is reccommended to have at least 512MB of memory. You are also using poor quality media "CMC" (Memorex probably). Go and get some Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.

Nasayin, thanks, I appreciate your deciphering the log. I will checkout the links you provided when I get home. Regarding my media - worse - Staples DVDs. I know - bad boy. I will invest in some quality media. I don't know why my DMA is off, I made no changes between the time burns were successful and when they began to fail, but I will follow up on that link. Memory I assume needs to be addressed by deleting enough material so my free disc space in "C" is enough as you recommend. Thanks for your help. I will revisit the forum tonight and let you know how I make out.

Nasayin, I followed the instructions on the link you provided regarding DMA and it worked like a charm; didn't have to go so far as to delete my burner driver, only my Primary and Secondary IDE channels. Used my last Staples DVD for a test burn and it took less than half the time it normally did prior to my experiencing the problems, what a pleasant surprise. Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated. I'll be sharing this new knowledge with a friend or two. If I experience any problems with subsequent burns I'll be back here looking for help. Next I want to check out the firmware link you provided and see where that takes me. In the meantime, wish me happy burning! Thanks again!
