I'm trying to burn some songs onto my CD using Nero, but I always get an error message. I think that's because I'm using the wrong disk type, but I'm not sure. Here's some of my history log: [edit] And yes, this is my first time burning CD's, and I'm using Transonic 700 mb CD-R's. I only have 1 HDD and no USB's. And the songs I'm recording are mp3, and they are not copyright or illegal. I am reasonably sure it is just the media (brand of CD) you are using. Have you tried another brand of blank CD (ideally someone like Verbatim or Sony). That usually indicates the aforementioned. Is this a Toshiba laptop? In digging around for firmware relating to your drive, I found out that Toshiba laptops have specific firmware for this drive (so updating it isn't likely an option). Also, Matshita are actually Panasonic OEM drives, which have a tendency to be picky, it would seem.
@Ripper, it's unclear to me what this burner is connected to. Is it USB? - and if it has twin Toshiba HDD's, why does one have DMA off? @Scorpia13, was it working ok before?
I did notice the DMA looking slightly odd but I just ignored it due to being, I thought, unrelated to this issue. I presume he has two but I don't know why would be showing as off, and vice versa. @Scorpia: Do you have two HDDs? It may be connected via USB in an enclosure, attar; I don't think it would show up in the SCSI map in that case. But in my experience with Matshita drives, they are just that - Matshita! If you have changed the brand of CD you were using, or haven't burned CDs before, I would still recommend trying something different - even if to rule it out as a cause. Burners are always more picky with CDs typically.
It would be nice to know why that DMA is off - perhaps transferring data from that HDD to a USB burner is the cause? I thought the IDE was associated with the recorder - perhaps it just means that Nero has detected an IDE period?
Well if it is indeed two hard drives then DMA should be on regardless, but I don't think it would cause burning to fail completely. That is usually what that section indicates, yes, but I'm not sure why it isn't showing up in the SCSI map as well, hence the suggestion. Need more info from you, Scorpia, before this one can go any further - if you had any success burning either a CD or DVD before then it would also be useful to see the log from that burn, and some information about your drive/setup.
What are you trying to burn? Do you have a clean song with no copy protections, have you burned it before? Are you trying to copy a new cd? What is the file extension of the file WAV, Mp3 etc???
