    This is my first post to this forum. Apologies in advance if I'm clumsy. I've done a search on this problem, found some helpful information, taken what might be corrective action, but the problem still persists.

    I'm using Nero Burning ROM v6.6.0.16. I've also picked up the latest firmware for my DVD burner (Plextor PX-504A). DMA is enabled to the burner. I guess you'll see all that and so much more below in the log. Anyway, ...

    I'm using RiDATA 4x DVD+R (RICOHJPNR01.8) ... see detailed disc info below. I've been using this type of media for ages and have had good luck with my burner and players ... until now.

    Now NeroBR is giving me LOTS of validation errors. As best I can tell the errors are bogus (most of the time). For many of the apparentely failed burns I go and run Nero CD-DVD Speed's ScanDisc and it says everything is fine as far as it can tell. Then I play the DVD and it plays fine as well. Very infrequently I do get a real failure though, so it would be nice to have a reliable and less painful means of validating the burn.

    Oh, and the failures usually aren't subtle (i.e., just differences) they are the "can't access sector" sorts of errors that you'd expect to show up pretty severely in something like ScanDisc and playing it.

    Below you will find a log for one of the recent failed validations that apparently is false (ScanDisc & playing it say it is fine). It isn't the complete log because there were LOTS of "can't access sector" failures. The other really annoying thing is that the latest version of NeroBR seems to slow the validation WAY DOWN when it encounters these false failures. The older version at least skipped over them relatively quickly.

    Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

    Hi and welcome...

    - hmmm, firmware seems to be up to date - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1530

    - that question mark seems to be ok as it looks like your burner is external to the PC

    - 4465MB is too close to outer edge of discs;

    if you're using DVD Shrink, set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge of discs and not sacrificing much space

    - a-ha - the burner's firmware is either out of date, or the firmware's up to date and the media you're using is too new for the firmware to know what to do with (or both!). when the firmware's able to properly recognise media you'd get a 3line paragraph similar to this example
    - what's happened there ?

    - hmmmm...not sure about that..

    - we need to investigate if there is newer firmware.

    - that's Roxio, it tends to interfere with Nero. uninstall Roxio, and you may have to google search for 'Roxio Zapper' to fully remove Roxio
