i dont know what i did but im pretty convinced it has something to with the ASPI burning layer. i recently swapped the one in my Windows/System32 folder with a newer one. this step was necessary in order to get Exact Audio Copy to work properly. anyway can somebody shed some light? now of course the problem may or may not be due to my tinkering with the ASPI file but both CopyXToDVD and Nero Micro 8 now only burn at 1x even if i choose 4x or 8x.. both programs even state 'Burning started at 8x' !! any help would be appreciated.
Post a burn log. Is your DMA on? edit If you have XP your ASPI layer should be 4.71 for Win, Nero has it's own layer. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm
hmm wnaspi32.dll states that it is version 2.0.1.74. the file appears to be the newest one and i have it located in three different folders where it is required for each (EAC, Nero, and System32). im trying to find my log file for my 1x burns. where exactly might that be located? didnt seem to be in the Nero folder.
oh and, the ASPI i have is the Nero one. i thought that the Adaptec was the older outdated one, no? i do believe that the Nero one is required in my EAC folder (per the setup instructions). and the reason i replaced the one in my System32 folder (previously Adaptec ASPI) was because EAC would crash everytime i opened it.. believed to be a conflict of ASPI files or something of the sort.. so had to replace System32 with Nero ASPI.
I would guess it is the 4.71 you should use. The Nero version will be used for Nero only. The log will show this This one does not have the 4.71 Nero 6 log : Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt Nero 7 log : Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt Nero 8 log : Program Files>Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Nero\Nero8\Nero Burning ROM\NeroHistory edit Read this about EAC and ASPI http://www.digital-inn.de/exact-aud...on-aspi-problems-eac-no-cd-found-problem.html
hmm so do you recommend i put 4.71 back into my System32 folder? and im assuming that i keep the Nero one in the Nero folder. as for my EAC issue who the hell knows? before replacing the Adaptec with Nero in System32 it would actually reboot my computer upon opening. oddly enough it didnt do this a few months ago (ASPI layers werent touched anywhere on the system) but just started a few days ago. tried re-installing as well.. same problem.. and as stated overwriting the Adaptec w/ Nero in Sys32 solved the problem. but notwithstanding that, what do you recommend for the Nero issue? i do appreciate all your help by the way!
To start with I would recommend not editing your system folders without knowing the results. Many times there are registry entrys that need to be changed to match the folder changes. I suggest starting over. Save your Nero serial number. Uninstall Nero and run the clean tools. http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-cleantools.html Download ASPI and install. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm Install Nero. Nero 6 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/tech/?539 Nero 7 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?2893 Stay away from Nero 8. edit Do you have Nero InCD installed. It may be causing a trouble. Why do you use EAC? ASPI checker http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspichk_exe.htm Nero info tool will also check the ASPI layer.
thanks for your help. i will give your suggestions a go. i will also try unistalling EAC again and cleaning out all registry traces of that as well. im guessing it'd just be the EAC folder in the registry but i will search around.
