My computer stopped recording dvd-video. I try burning DVD-video with the video_TS folder procedure and it fails at the end of the burn. Tried formating the C drive, tried different versions of Nero, tried different media incl Verbatim nothing helps. I am going nuts. It burns CDs and the occasional data DVD ok but it just wouldnt back up dvd-video. PLS HELP here is the log:

You need to edit out your Nero serial number. To edit: click on the "pencil & paper" icon on the right inside the faded orange like bar, then edit your Nero serial out. Once you're done click "save changes".

Your burner's firmware is out of dated, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1624 and download the latest 1.5g to run the updates on your burner.

Your Sony burner's DMA is Off, you need to "uninstall" its driver, so it can turns back DMA on.

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver “for Win XP users”))

    A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
    B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
    C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
    E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
    F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers”

    (A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
    (B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
    (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

NOTE: To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero:
Open up "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under either Primary or Secondary <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.

This is too close to the edges, try to custom to 4360MB or at least 4400MB with high quality media.

This is not a very good brand, try TY, Verbatim or Maxell (Made In Japan)

Your burner doesn't like the media.

Try to burn at least 2X or 4X (at the max) with high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell (Made In Japan)

If you used Shrink to rip with then go to Edit -> Preferences and set the target size to Custom then 4360 MB for the media you are currently using.

I don't know if you are using Shrink. You could always use Shrink to set the file size though.

    Looks like you have WinASPI:

    IA32
    WinAspi: -
    ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 02/11/2004 12:54:32

That's all I've ever had. No problems.

You know that DVD may play...It is missing part of the lead-out and it may act odd when the movie ends. I've made one or two of those. Try it.

Did all of the above and the same error comes up when Nero is closing the disk. I get it with quality media as well. Could it be the burner? here is the new log

    - due to the burner being internal to the PC (i can tell that from HA 1 TA 0 - that means the burner is Master on the Secondary IDE channel) and that question mark there, there's something still not right wih your DM settings. try to get them sorted again

nero info tool confirms that the burner is the master of the secondary IDE and that both DMA and Autorun are on. What more can I do?

i think you just gotta persevere with the DMA settings as i can't see any reason why it's not working (yet). not disputing alkohol's DMA suggestion, i just find it easier to provide this one - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

if that doesn't work try this way (should be the same difference, just be very careful using regedit) -
