I am trying to burn a CD using nero burning Rom 7.2.0.3 and can do DVD's but not CD's using a liteon DVDRW SHW-1635S. Recently I installed and uninstalled CDclone, alchohol120 and scexehide which is when my problems started occuring. Shortly thereafter, my LiteOn dvd drive cannot recognize blank CD's (when inserting a blank Cd, the Drive speeds up and goes into continual run mode, and i have to do a system resent to get the system to stop. When I try to burn a CDimage, the drive goes into continual, "waiting for the drive to become ready" mode. I have read numerous forum messages and have done all the following to no avail: 1). checking/unchecking the Enable CD recording box in windows explorer box for the drive. 2). running windows Autofix.exe it couuld not correct the error. 3). deleting the drive from the windows device manager and then rebooting. 4). reseting nero burning rights to all users. Question: How can i determine if the drive is defective (hardware issue), or if it is a software issue? If it is the latter, is there a fix? Thank you in advance
I would reinstall these programs and see if this fixes your problem. Sometimes a shared file that was deleted will corrupt the system from working properly. If this does correct the problem then I would just leave the programs on the computer! hope this helps. I once uninstalled Google Desktop and it took out my whole desktop... icons and all, even the taskbar and there was not START so I couldn't do anything! the only thing I had was WINDOWS TASK MANAGER and in reinstalled Google Desktop and everything came back and more! Meanwhile the Technicials from Dell couldn't help me! Not even reinstalling Windows helped, or manually going into DOS and trying to get a restore point to work! After 5 hours of Dell Support (which they didn't even ask me for money!) they couldn't help me..... I had to help myself and figure out how to get Windows Task Manager to run the Google Desktop installer ...... once I found the file I needed to run I just hit the RUN TASK button and my whole computer came back! Thank G-d! I was kinda frantic but learned a valueable lesson. Hope this helps. and I wish you luck.
Ihoe, Thanks, I tried your suggestion, and it did not work. I also have additional errors like, the DVDCD reader does not recognize a blank CD and after inserting a blank CD, it says "Insert CD..." Deamon Tools was also installed/uninstalled/installed.
I have an additional symptom that the drive will read/write DVD's, but will not read/write cd's. Is this a coincidental hardware failure? When I do a check using Nero tools, the drive comes up fine, as well as in windows device manager (xp professional). Since deamon tools mounts a virtual ide drive, could the problem be that my system configuration ended up with more than 4 ide devices? I have two DVD/CD drives a two Hard drives for a total of 4 physical ide drives. How do i check to be sure the system will recognize the 4 physical drives?
Have you tried to uninstall Nero and run the clean tool. http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Clean_Tools.html Do you have Nero InCD installed. It can cause conflicts with some other software. Also there is a later version of Nero.
I was able to determine the problem is a hardware/drive failure, because I swapped the drive into another machine and the other machine gave the same errors (the drive would write/read DVD's, but would not read/write/recognize cd's). Perhaps these symptoms might help someone else who has a dVD drive but the CD portion of the drive fails. Thanks for your help
when a drive goes bad it's usually the other way around where it will burn CDs and not be able to burn DVDs! go figure!
