    Hi,

Im having problem copying a dvd using re encode of nero. The dvd which i am re encoding is a copy it encodes perfectly, but the problem is it burns 50 percent and the disc comes out with a burn error. The message i get is out of memory could it be it is a copy and there are no other files for it to re encode as on the dvd its the main movie only?

Nero will have added a 'start' and 'end' to the image file (ISO) when it encodes so that you should have no blank at the end of the disk like you describe.

The error message makes me think that you don't have enough hard drive space to do the full burn. Try encoding the file with Nero as you have done but save it instead of burning it. You can save it as an image file on the hard drive. Then close Nero and any other progs running and try burning with IMGburn. Its free and uses loads less memory than Nero. You may have to delete some stuff off your hard drive if you still have the problems. How much space is free? You'll need 10Gig for Nero sometimes.

Can you paste the Nero log so that we can have a look at it - it may provide some clues as to the problem.

Also 2.8GB is not enough for Nero to recode. It can need up to 10 GB depending on what you are doing. This is prob why its crashing

the space i have on c drive is 21.2 gb.

Still dont know what the problem is?

In nero re encode it takes mins to encode a dvd, and then its not the main movie its just the adverts before the film?

I have never had this problem before

What i want to do is copy a dvd on to a dvdr,

the best way and quickest way for me to do this was by using nero encode then burning it using nero.

Now it is takeing quite a bit of time, the main movie does not get encoded and sometimes while burning there will be an burn error of some sort.

If you are trying to back-up a regular shop bought DVD then Nero can't do this - there is copyright protection on it. Use DVD fab to remove the protection and then shrink the size with DVD Shrink (both free) - burn onto a single layer disk then with Nero. There is plenty of help for both DVDfab and DVDShrink here http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/125

These dvds are not copy protected as I have copied these before using the same method.

Now when ever i attempt to do something with nero it just freezes and says nero has encountered an error.

uninstall Nero and try a clean install. If the DVD is protection free it should just copy fine - that's if its a single layer disk.

    I would suggest that there are a few problems here;

    1- Memory in use : 72 % =WAY too high.
2- Free physical memory: 281MB =Way too small
3- Check supported media : Disabled =not sure why this needs to be disabled and maybe causing an error if the media is not suitable
4- KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST = suggest that disk and firmware on drive are not compatible. Have you tried updating your firmware or using a DVD-R? Or copy-protection on the disk
5-BurnAtOnceRecorder = this function is going to struggle with so little memory esp in Nero which is a memory hog
6-KEY_UNIT_ATTENTION = drive has reset because it's got really upset with something most likely the combination of errors before.

I would suggest (and I'm open to ideas)

Copy protection or errors on the disk/files you are transcoding. I would try running the files through DVDFab or similar to check for copy protection and check for scratched/ bad disk

Multiple programs and low on memory causing Nero to flake. Close any other progs down and try to free up some memory. Ideally use another prog to burn which doesn't need so much resource. If you want to burn a normal DVD image (to play on DVD player etc) then try Imgburn. It's free and v. good.

Old firmware/media compatibility problem. Try updating your firmware and try a DVD-R disk or another better brand of disk.

Hope this helps. It could just be one of these issues causing the fail but because they are all popping up on the error log I would suggest that its the combination of factors killing the burn.
