I started out with nero 5.5 and never tried to burn a vcd for a long time. I recently tried and it wouldnt re encode. Then I slapped myself after realizing it was a plugin that would do the encoding. I had no problems at all. Till recently the program would crash during the middle of encoding. The timer would stop ticking I would get the error in the progress box I usually have it minimized so it would say "done" then i restore it and notice these things. I would close that window then it would tell me nero has encounterd a problem, send the error report, crash, burn and all the bs. It "usually" happens after 15 minutes 25%. It's weird too because if I dont touch the computer or do anything else while its encoding it will error sooner. If I surf the web or download p2p it will re encode to like 70%. I never had any problems before but now I always get that error that I used to get before I put in the plugin, but before I had the plugin it wouldnt even start re encoding and it wouldnt crash. The only thing I can think of is that because ive been dowloading and testing out all kinds of vcd "Tools" and programs and uninstalling the ones I dont like is that nero possibly shared a file with one of these programs. I'm thinking that at 4:00 am (afterdawn =P) when I'm all delirious already or irritated at the "stupid" programs ive been trying that when I uninstalled one of them and it says "xxxx does not need to use this file anymore you can delete it but it may cause other programs to not function properley.....do you wish to proceed?". Im not 100% sure thats what happened but sometimes I just click away and I might have "proceeded" to a non encoding nero. So I try upgrading to 6.whatever and its even worse the program would crash when im dragging & dropping files to burn to vcd. This only happens with vcd I could still burn audio and data with the 6.0. But I went back down to 5.5,then I tried reinstalling the plugin, still wont totally encode. I havent tried burning a VCD that doesnt need to be re-encoded I think I'll go do that now. I hope some one can help me. I dont want it to be like before I got the plugin. Its so much simpler with it too bad it dont work. Oh yeah and if you know of any good, free or cheap, easy video trimming tools? cause ill need one if i cant get this to work. _I do music videos on my VCD's _ _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]REAL EYES REALIZE REAL LIES[/small]
Nero is one of the Worst Programs for encodeing your Files to VCD..(I think I have Said this 5 Times allready today...LOL) It"s encodeing Quality sucks and it has a Habbit of Doing wierd things like encodeing your Movie upside down and other Problems.. You should use a Standalone encoder to encode your Movie files to Mpeg1/VCD and then you can use Nero to Just Burn the File to CD-R as a VCD.... For Freeware Mpeg1/VCD encoders Tmpgenc is Probably the Best accept there are a Few Things you need to do so that your Encodeing is Fully Successfull... You have to First Decompress the audio in your AVI file because Tmpgenc doesn"t like Compressed audio, If you PM Me with your e-mail address I can send you a simple tool that will do this for you... Another thing you need to know is that sometimes when you first use the program you might get an error saying "Can Not Open or Unsupported" when you load in your AVI file..To fix this you go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "vfapi Plugins" and Raise the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2", This will usually get rid of the error... You also have to make sure that you encode your AVI file to Mpeg1/VCD useing the Same Frame rate as the AVI file...If you do these Simple things while useing Tmpgenc you will get High Quality VCD"s that Nero should burn without re-encodeing which usually ruins the quality....Good Luck...Cheers
Hello i've experienced the same thing using nero 5.5 and i'm pretty new to making vcd's and thought 19 hours to encode some short home movies was a bit much, mine froze on 84%. After a few attempts of mainly lowering the number movies I was successfully able to get my movies onto disc but only could use a 1/3 of the disc without it freezing on me. They were .mpg movies but I have a few of the quicktime .mov files that I would like to burn which nero won't encode so I have converted a few to .avi to test using Rad Video Tools and would like to now convert the avi files to mpeg1 to make a vcd. Like I said i'm new to this and am probably going about this totally the wrong way and TMPGEnc sounds pretty bloody confusing with all the audio decompression stuff. Can you suggest an easier way for me to burn my home movies? Mel
