Hi. I am hoping someone can help me... please! When trying to burn CD's with Nero 6 the burning process is aborted in less than a minute, the program telling me that the burn process has failed. Reading other threads i updated the drive to the BYS3 version, removed InCD, and tried uninstalling the driver from device manager and let it be auto reinstalled, but still my problem persists (although this time it went for a record 4 minutes!). it Has cost me about 10 DL DVD's now so i am hoping for a solution before i can afford no more!! many thanks. Below is a copy of the error log.... 1a25-0006-7130-1825-8649-2589 Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.68, size=160016 bytes, created 28/07/2004 16:51:12 Nero version: 6.6.0.0 Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DW-D22A> Version: BFS1 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.6.0.0 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B>Version: 0S24 - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.6.0.0 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DW-D22A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : RAID_Volume0 iaStor Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DW-D22A E: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163 F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1023MB (1047908kB) Free physical memory: 379MB (388300kB) Memory in use : 62 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 4.10.2002 ISO compilation 20:49:57 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6170 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 20:49:57 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 20:49:57 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SONY DVD RW DW-D22A running 20:49:57 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3286 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 20:49:57 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3119 Turn on Disc-at-once, using DVD media 20:49:58 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 256 Last possible write address on media: 4173823 (927:30.73, 8151MB) Last address to be written: 4171407 (926:58.57, 8147MB) 20:49:58 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 268 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 20:49:58 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2310 Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-D22A, Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer Disc Manufacturer ID: RITEK, Media Type ID: D01, Product revision number: 1 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 0 20:49:58 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 430 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 20:49:58 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 844 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 4171408 (4171408) = #4171408/926:58.58 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 4171408 blocks [SONY DVD RW DW-D22A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 20:49:58 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1045 Prepare recorder [SONY DVD RW DW-D22A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Session Closed, disc not fixated Tracks 1 to 1: 1: TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048/0x00, FilePos 0 0 8543043584, ISRC "" DAO layout: =========== __Start_|____Track_|_Idx_|_RecDep_|_CtrlAdr_ 0 | lead-in | 0 | 0x00 | 0x41 0 | 1 | 0 | 0x00 | 0x41 0 | 1 | 1 | 0x00 | 0x41 4171408 | lead-out | 1 | 0x00 | 0x41 20:49:58 #12 Phase 24 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1861 Caching of files started 20:50:00 #13 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 4135 Cache writing successful. 20:50:00 #14 Phase 25 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1861 Caching of files completed 20:50:00 #15 Phase 36 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1861 Burn process started at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) 20:50:00 #16 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 2471 Verifying disc position of item 0 (relocatable, disc pos, no patch infos, orig at #0): write at #0 20:50:00 #17 Text 0 File DVDPlusDualLayer.cpp, Line 474 L0 Data Zone Capacity not set. Sorry I cant really help you but I was hopeing you could point me towards the BYS3 Firm, I cant find it anywhere I Dont no how to read logs but I took notice that DMA is off. I will see if I can get someone to help
- EDIT OUT your serial number - i used this version for absolutely ages without problem, however you do have problems so you should update to latest (6.6.0.16) as part of troubleshooting your problems - hmmm, thought you'd updated to BYS3... it's here - http://dhc014.rpc1.org/Files/DVDR/DW-D22A_BYS3b.zip - DMA needs to be ON, fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - i always have 600MB free when i burn, i'm only mentioning your memory as you should still keep more memory free - just checking, did you intend to not finalise the discs - hopefully all the recommendations will get you sorted - uninstall Roxio, doesn't play well with Nero. You may have to google search for Roxio Zapper to fully eradicate Roxio
@creaky, I dont want to take over the thread but I cant flash my drive and I cant find an answers.This is my first time flashing. I Ran ltnFW, I stick in the bin, check update, It goes right to 100% and says it's in progress then the start button goes unshaded like its done flashing but it stays at 100% it dont say done. How long should this process take? what could fix this problem???? Am I doing something wrong? I tryed useing MTKflash but I get errors in my floppy drive when I try to make a boot disc(this looks hard to use anyways) I been working on this since you pointed me to the firmware! Do you know what this new firmware all upgrades? Thank you so much
thanks so much for that creaky... that was invaluable advice i am sure i never would have figured so many thanks. a new problem i am afraid... me DELIGHT at finally to run a successful burn has been tempered by the fact that the disc cannot be read by the drive! or my dvd-rom drive, nor by my dvd player. is this a media issue?? once more i need some help. so frustrating!

@blcdoc - Hi again, glad you sort of got working before. However, i've not done any Dual Layer burning, nor do i intend to at DL prices!, though i'll do what i can. Your thread's title suggests you're sure you have a Sony DW-D22A and whilst i don't doubt you, this same drive caused me some grief today - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/241639 Basically if it's a Sony then ignore that part of my reply..it's always worth checking the obvious. I can't see anything in the logfile that jumps ot to me. I do see the booktyping has been done successfully which should obviously help the disc work in more players. So maybe it is the Layer Break problem after all... From what i keep reading from some of my buddies round here (two that spring to mind are arniebear and kivory666, not meaning to miss anyone out- i don't pay too much attention to the DL stuff yet), Nero's not currently much good at dealing with the Layer Break. Also i don't yet know how to tell much about Dual Layer from logfiles. The recommendations i know of are to try DVD Decrypter to burn Dual Layer as it can handle Layer Breaks properly. What may be worth trying also is 'imgburn' from the guy who developed DVD Decrypter (Lightning UK). re imgburn (haven't got around to trying it myself so am slowly reading up on it) - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240201 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240834 any DL burning threads i can find, sorry, will just give you some links as am gonna get off the PC for a change, wanna watch a movie as i get up far too early for work http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/238291 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/241545 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/239061 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/236398
