Just got a new CD-R/RW. It came bundled with Nero Burning ROM v5.5 When I try to install the Burning ROM I get 'Error 1305. Error reading from file E:\NERO55\Nero\CDROM.CFG. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.' I tried downloading Nero551042.exe from the web and got an error while extracting CDROM.CFG I could install on another computer (both Win98). CDROM.CFG appears empty on my PC but not on the other. Appears to be some kind of copy protection issue, but not sure. Any ideas? PS - I did have another CD-R/RW and DirectCD installed but removed when CD died.
You need to install from the CD before updating to the latest upgrade of Nero for free. Sounds like the disc containing Nero is maybe damaged. Try cleaning it up and trying again. Does the new drive recognise other CD-ROM's? If it does then if Nero doesn't install take it back for a replacement.
The CD does appear to be working correctly. InCD does work and I can read CD's on it. I never could get the Burning ROM to install correctly. The upgrade was suggested by technical support. Nero has this problem identified on the FAQ site but fails to have a remedy. http://www.nero.com/us/631933964104283.html#6 I don't think it's a bad CD or bad drive. There is something on my PC that is incompatible with Burning ROM but I can't figure out what it is. I emailed tech support again but it seems to take a week for them to respond. Discmania, thanks for the reply.
