Strange thing has been happening as I try to copy one particular DVD. No matter how I slice it, Nero freezes upon burning at no further than 11% each and every time (This has happend on 6 occasions and I lost 6 DVD-Rs). It will back up using DVD Shrink okay but by the time burning begins, it ends up freezing up and a lost DVD. I tried backing up using DVD Shrink to a folder and then tried burning using Nero but again with no success. I have burnt probably close to 60 DVDs according to the guides on this website in the DVD Shrink - Nero 5.5.10.56 tandem and without a hitch. Not sure what may be going on now...Thoughts? I have a Sony DVD DRU 500AX using DVD-R media from Ritek (G04), PIII machine with 384 MB (Max) and Windows XP. This stinks!
Hi aspire180, Welcome to AD - First things first, may I humbly request that you consider using RW media until you get the problem solved ?- You could have purchased 2 or more of them so far with the money you've wasted and you only need one - Next, Nero gets "Flighty" at times so we suggest uninstalling it completely and then reinstalling it. By "completely" I mean using Nero's program to clean your drivers and your registry - http://www.nero.com/en/631938356417810.html I also want you to use Nero's Clean tools to clean bits that are left behind - http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.html Now let's do a fresh Nero installation - NEXT, What program of Nero's are you using for burning ? Have you tried burning a CD ? If not, then do it. What media are you using ? Have you tried to burn with something else ? If not then do it. Get back to with the answers to all of the questions so we'll know where to go from there - - _X_X_X_X_X_[small] The “old man” Pete (ö¿ô) Compaq 8000, Pent 4 CPU 2.84GHz, 1GB RAM, 520GB HD. 4 Drives, JLMS DVD ROM, Nec 4X R/W ND-1300A, HP R/W 200j, AXV CD/DVD-ROM. Thanks...I will do that. Currently, I have been using Nero 5.5.10.56 I was wondering, lately, my Hard Drive that I burn from (Typically 80GB in size) has been pretty full when I have been trying to burn some DVDs of late (Currently, it is at about 71 GB full)...Is it possible that the decreased amount of free space (It's also a 5200 RPM drive, don't ask why it is...A friend bought it) is slowed things down to a grind and hence freezing Nero? Thanks again
Would suggest that you delete some files and defrag your hard disk - 10 to 15 Gb freespace recommended for ripping/burning process
Well, I was able to burn CD-Rs (Music and Data) but still not functionality with the DVD burning...Still think it's Nero or perhaps my DVD-RW/CD-RW drive itself?...I tried burning a DVD-ISO as a data backup to help free up free space but that too froze on me...I still cannot get the DVD to burn with Nero past 3%...It just freezes, no errors or anything, just freezes at 3% and I see no lights on my burner drive to indicate burning...I now have nearly 13 GB free on my hard drive and have run defrag a few times...Not sure where to go from here, just go on with the uninstall of Nero?
Still feel that your problem may be related to available free space on your hard disk. As a general rule, it is advisable to have at least 10% of your hard disk free for temp and buffered files etc. You are bordering on the edge and more available disk space may help
Oooopps sorry, I thought that was done at the top of the page - well, we could do it now as I described at the top of the page - Now would be a good time -
Well, I tried everything. I uninstalled Nero 5.5.10.56 and reinstalled with Nero Ultra 6.0 and still the same results. My burner is operating out of my primary Hard Disk but I am saving my DVDShrink'd DVD on my secondary hard disk (16% free, defrag'd several times and 5200 RPM 80 GB Western Digital). I am using Ritek G04 Media (4x) and have a Sony DRU 500UAX burner. All this and still freezing during burn at around 5-10%...I had presumably successfully burned some CD-Rs (Data) previously on ScubaPete's suggestion but it turns out that they aren't readable now...My primary DVD-ROM drive and the Sony Burner both read and play DVDs and DVD-ROMs fine as well despite the burning problems...Not sure what else to do.
I had to replace my ide cable. also take out the drive you don't need. It sound like that cd burned is not needed?.?.i tried everything else but this seemed to fix it.
