I have a DVDRW IDE1008 drive and Nero 6.6.03 (XP Home w/SP2) Whenever I try to burn a DVD using DVDdecrypter and Recode, the encoding process goes fine, but when it comes time to burn, after 20 seconds, Nero ejects my DVD. It immediatly closes again, but after another 30 seconds it gets ejected again and the burn fails. I get a "recorder function not implemented" error. I've updated my firmware, but I'm still not 100% sure if this is a Nero or burner issue. I've noticed in NeroInfo Tool that DMA is off. I don't know what that is. Could that be the problem? First off the latest Nero has been nothing but trouble. I suggest sticking with 63XXX for now. DMA should be on, if it's off there is a chance XP had some problems with your burner.
Thanks for being the first to even try to answer. I tried going back to Nero 6.3 but I still had problems. I took the advice of many others on the site and tried DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter. My burns took much longer, but they did work flawlessly. It certainly answered my question that it was not my burner. As for DMA, I tried uninstalling the drive and letting Windows reinstall, hopefully with DMA on, but to no avail. Any ideas how to turn it on? Thanks
Well with DVDShrink you don't need Decrypter except to burn (can be set up in Shrink to burn with Decrypter instead of Nero). Nero's Recode seems very similiar to DVDShrink, rumour has it they are written by the same author. DMA should be on as things work better and faster with it enabled. Have you installed the proper chipset drivers for your MOBO? Check in the BIOS and Device Manager and make sure DMA is enabled. Some info on DMA here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx You might try deleting the drive (also unplug it) and the whole IDE channel from Device Manager and reboot (hopefully it will come back), turn off the computer, plug in the drive and see if it comes up in DMA, although for some this has caused problems... have a system restore point ready. This a very common problem, try a Google search for more info.
