I've tried to read all the previous threads but I can't find anything relating to this problem. I've downloaded quite a few avi files and usually don't have a problem playing them back with Nero Showtime. I have the latest updates installed. I have a few files though that Nero starts to play and then just stops responding. The movie will play with Windows Media Player, but not Nero. I downloaded AVI Codec and according to it, my system supports the codec file. I ran the file through AVI Medic and according to it, there is no problem and if the file does not play, there is a problem with the codecs.

I tried downloading the same file again. With the first file, the video freezes at 3 minutes while the audio keeps going. With the second one, the video freezes at 22 minutes and the audio keeps going. I tried Nero Recode to convert the file but it crashed too. I tried to convert the avi to DVD with Nero and it burnt until it reached the point where the video freezes and then it stops responding. Once it stops responding, I have to use Windows Task Manager to shut it down.

My system is pretty up to date. Just got a Gateway 510XL in January of 2004. 3.0G with 1G Ram. I've done a clean uninstall and reinstall of Nero but it made no difference. I have all the plug-ins. I'm assuming that since WMP will play the file, there is no codec problem. If the file was corrupted, AVI Medic should know. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Showtime I would assume always uses Nero Digital filters. Other dshow players won't unless they happen to have the highest merit.
