Hi all I have a HP laptop with Vista that I have just installed Nero 8 on. I have recoded a variety of different movies etc using Nero Recode to shrink the file size down, but when I playback the image is shaky but I have found that even without recoding Nero will be shaky whereas Media Player and Quicktime play with no problems. I also uninstalled Nero 8 and used Nero 7 and the problem went away. Anyone know the cause of this? I do also have DVD ghost installed so is it possibly thats the cause? Thanks
hi nero showtime is a rubbish player...from my experience to watch video on my pc...you've got to use something better like media player classic (which will still give you a little off your symptoms ) or powerDVD5 by cyberlink (very good)
Rotary - to try and clarify what I was trying to describe I burn a DVD to my HDD and Media Player and Quicktime both play it no problems. Nero Showtime will play it but the image is as if whoever was holding the camera was shaking. I didn't discover this until I had recoded a couple of movies with Nero Recode to shrink the file sizes. Media Player and Quicktime will not play the recoded movies due to the codec required. Thanks for the hints from you and gurnard about using other players - will download them when I can and see if they will allow me to play the offending vids but this will be a few weeks away as I work away from home and internet connection is to slow to download anything (just to access afterdawn its about a 3min to load homepage)
@ Rotary shows how much off a dinosaur i am, i still use Power2go3 for all my vhs to dvd convertions lol @ kneemick you could try K-Lite Codec Pk Full version http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm
@ gurnard, The initial poster has Vista OS. Naturally, Vista Codec package is what he needs as K-Lite is incompatible with Vista. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/vista_codec_package.cfm
ok is it me or not? first off this reads that 2 players are ok playing files made to HDD then it says there not? ------------ if it were the codecs used the first dvd on HDD wouldnt play, as a dvd off your HDD shrunk is/are the same file types so will play... so nero encoder may be killing the film off? no sure as im still unsure, again lol, sorry + i wouldnt gauge quailty by nero showtime either.... use better software.
Gurnard, Rotary etc - I agree Showtime is rubbish (and I am starting to develop a mental block in regard to Vista as well lol). Rotary, sorry for the confusion - what I am trying to say is that if I burn a movie to HDD it will play well in Media Player and Quicktime. However I recoded some movies using nero recode to reduce files from 4+ gigs to 700megs (I know should probably not be so lazy and use gordianknot or similar to burn to AVI but being a newbie I am trying to make things simple for myself). When I try to playback these recoded movies using Showtime the picture is all shaky as if the cameraman is either freezing cold or suffering severe withdrawal from substances. Fortunatly I didn't recode everything on my HDD so I can use Media Player etc to view non recoded vids, but cannot use these Players for the recoded ones. I have also found that with some (and this is the really strange bit) full DVD files, Nero Showtime displays the same symptoms, but others vids on the HDD it plays perfectly. Interstingly also, when I first tried to play vids I had recoded using Nero 7, Nero 8 said it couldn't play them, but then plays all of them perfectly i.e. it is only videos that I have recoded since "upgrading" to nero 8 that are causing the problems. I hope this clarifies the confusion, and once again I am sorry for causing it and do appreciate your feedback.
Sorry - possibly should have said before, the version of Nero 8 I am using is a legitimate upgrade from Nero 7, not a pirate version.
hi ha!ha! we wouldn't assume otherwise never having compressed something quite as drastic as that i'm afraid i can't comment on the quality, although i should have thought all sorts of strange things could happen
